Probes to moon, Mars called priority http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/space/06/01/moon.nasa.ap/index.html lets hope its for real.
i'd say 50 years at a minimum, but 100 years is more likely. right now i'd say we have to get some control over some huge issues on earth before the general populace gets some enthusiasm behind the idea.
why send people when bots are so dispensable and require less space? if we do send people it would only be for the purpose of colonization, or recreation
I think that we will try to create settlements on the Moon before Mars is seriously looked at for travel. I've seen a few science programs on Mars. There are a few things that would need to be figured out before we would try to send a human to mars, first, the dust on mars is so fine that it would seep through any crack or space open at all. Also, in the dust cyclones the cover Mars, the dust and sand becomes static and clings to you and would quickly smother you. If we terraform anything it would most likely be the Moon, see how it's closer, and the only real problems with it is that there's no water or oxygen.
Um - so money-hungrey and power lusting republicans can kick Martian bacteria butt and ruin the planet?
