I feel for you guys there. I have a friend who lives in those parts and her hubby sets up the generator when he hears news like that. One time it was a good thing because they wouldn't have gotten to it in the shed once the dump landed on them and prit near closed them in the house for several days.
Never heard it being done, more like staying off roads and staying inside and being prepared. I used to like when they cancelled school.
Since erosion is getting worse near some seaside homes, sometimes the people right on the water are ordered to evacuate.
well about a foot (12 inches) on top of the 8 that,s there already. and another 3 tonight mabye? enough already!
Oh, come on! You Northeasterners are supposed to laugh at this stuff! You're turning into weather wimps, just like Southerners! Where is your pride and macho attitude? I used to have a college professor from Pennsylvania who always said, "I've never in my life been late to work or class because of winter weather." Of course, he may have been lying. He was kind of an asshole, and he had no proof of anything he was saying. Come to think of it, I was never late due to snow either, back when I was going to school up in the mountains. I could walk to class and work, and I got up early to allow extra time for trudging through blowing snow drifts of two feet or more. Nobody up there would accept deep snow as an excuse for being late. People put a higher priority on living very close to work or school. We did close everything down for ice storms. I know of some people who have vacation property on the SC coast who drive down there every time a big snow is in the forecast for central NC. When I was younger, I thought that was stupid. Now I understand. My tolerance for cold weather sure as hell ain't what it used to be. :freezing: I know of other folks who love to ski, and some of them try to get to the NC or WV mountains ahead of these storms, so they won't have to drive in it, and they'll be ready to hit the slopes as soon as the blizzard is over, before the big crowds from the cities arrive. On snowy nights, the bars are packed on Beech Mountain, around Boone, and at Snowshoe.
We have been ordered to evacuate for Sandy last year and it was suggested a few other times- -those away from the ocean ,still have to worry about the bay. Its intense when you see them comin in with rafts and boats to get people and thier pets outta thier bungalows and homes . Most people try to ride out the storms boarding up thier windows ,,etc...,but the flooding usually makes travel impossible along the main roads near the ocean- The last 2 yrs have been crazy,,I really dont remember it being this bad..and Ive been down here maybe 7 years now. So far there have been no power problems ,which is a big reason people leave (no heat)-
Jeez, low blow, Karen. You know I'm Boston Strong. It wasn't a native who said that -- it was the CNN weatherman, probably sitting in a chair in wimpy Atlanta!
Now in Boston, we are facing a blizzard with eight inches of snow in a widespread area. The heavy stuff is supposed to begin tonite. This is our second nor'easter in three days -- a very unusual situation. Time to make a shopping list.
well to my surprise this morning the mabye 1 inch forecast, turned into about 8-10 inches overnight. not to bad huh? but it,s on top of 8 inches from last week. then on top that thursday we got 12 inches. and now this 8-10 more, over 2 feet altogether. it looks nice though ma driveway is bout 4 foot high on the sides. it,s so deep only my rottiweiler,s head sticks up out the snow. lol off to shovel again
So, on top of the 27 inches from Pax it's been snowing heavily here for the past couple hours and looks like we now have an additional 4 or 5 inches and still coming down... I don't the snow when D doesn't have to work...after I wake him up around 1:30 we are going to take Cason sledding.
The media has become really crazy and hyper about snow storms. It all started a few years back when they started naming snow storms... and yea, they make a a huge deal about snow in places like PA, NY, Mass, etc that are used to getting lots of snow. We have plows and salt here. Life goes on.
yep; bout media, News, it makes everyone run to the stores and buy all the milk and bread. idk what people think? there never gonna leave the house again? even after were halfway through winter here too. we,ll all be ok people it,s just snow. news said it might hit 55 next friday? 27 inches snow+55.=flood?
I saw A LOT of standing water on certain intersections on the roads yesterday...we had just gotten that 27 inches and then it was 43 degrees and melting a lot. So, yea...could be some flooding. It now looks like we got another 5 or so inches here... it's pretty yucky looking in the parking lot.... so I guess total of about 32 inches in two days here. Are you from kinda near me? I'm in south-eastern PA. Oh...and yes, I ended up in the grocery store a week or so ago just by chance before a snow storm... and I was SHOCKED just how many people were in there buying a ton of stuff when they were only callin for 5-8 inches or something like that. Makes me wonder sometimes if people realize that when we get 8 inches or so.. they plow the roads an hour later and even if you get "stuck" you won't be stuck for more than a day. Does everybody really have NO food in their houses before every snow storm?
No snow here. We are expecting rain for 4 days. I hate rain in summer, love it in winter because if we had a snow fall it washes it away
21"...and still snowing ...all day....We have piles of it, that are way over my head now.....piles that have been shovelled. I have never seen anything like it. I will try to take some photos.....maybe.
