shitty im really criticial of good service... ive worked so many retail and customer service jobs that if i dont get greeted in a store, or get snobbed/nose turned up at, or else the opposite happens and i get perpetually badgered i get really mad and just walk out, even if i like what i found (unless its on sale for super cheap, then i cant resist). same with waitressing... ill tip min 10% unless its atrocious, but it can sometimes take a bit more to convine me that the server deserves more than that... if theyre really nice and friendly and such they tend to get more. i always seem to tip good in bars.. .50-1 for a 3.00 drink is a shiny percentage tip
My tipping varies a lot. I have gone into restaurants and gotten such lousy service that I have left 0 tip, or a penny tip. I have also gotten such great service (and perks such as the drinks that weren't put on the bill) that I have left tips of about 50%. Ignoring outliers, I probably leave the standard 15-20% for acceptable service.
In Ireland we pay a living wage so there's never need to tip. but when I lived in usa I continuously forgot in fact I was there two months before anyone even mentioned to me about tipping. I was perhaps the most hated man in the states. Still If minimum wage in America is so bad why is nothing done about it?
who the hell knows? but wait staff is underpaid BECAUSE they get tips, and then they get taxed on their tips. what kind of shit is that?
ten percent is standard, but i seldom go to places where tipping is considered appropriate or neccessary, nor for that matter, where reservations are either. by seldom i mean i can't remember how many years it's been since the last time it was. i've had several dish washing jobs in the past in those kinds of places though. and when i was working at better paying jobs i did go to what i thought might be interesting ones occasionally. i would never intentionally undertip. just not go back to anyplace that deserved to be. life is too short to waste on that kind of thing. =^^= .../\...
No, its not a joke. I dont tip the postman, the baker, the salesman..why should a waiter be any different ? You get paid by your boss to serve and I am not ur boss so I dont pay. Its ur job after all. If anyone isnt happy with their job, they should find another one, better paid. I really dont see why should I tip.
I try to go for the standard 15%. Sometimes it may end up like 12-14% cause I always do it in my head. Which is bad for the cashier, because I suck at math. On the flip side, sometimes the tip ends up being 16-18%. If I really like service, 20%. But generally, I try to aim for something that is fair, but giving a general estimate of what the tip should be, after my brain is fried from trying to figure out an exact tip.
if you live in the States, tipping is proper etiquette. not tipping only makes you appear cheap, rude or ignorant.
