Yeah, the groovin generation is totally coming back in our school. I laugh at all the mod/scene/ kids... They are going to punch themselves in the face when they look back at what they did to their one and only childhood.

As for wandering, I'm planning on going on a huge forest adventure this summer, but if my parents flip out I probably won't be able to go for that long, if at all. Plus, my friends and I are already saving up for a trip to Europe after high school =)

i am finally doing it, in 3 weeks, and although i've backpacked with a friend before staying in hostels in turkey, this time i am on my own and penniless. i am going anyway though. there is always something to fear if you let yourself, but i feel the urge to wander too much!

i'm planning to do work exchange with farmers in europe

Best of luck, I hope you enjoy yourself. You should post in the Europe forum if you've any questions at all. There's people from all over Europe there, so you could pick up some good advice.

    Om Shanti :)

My feet have been itchin for years now and I believe my time is comin. I have many questions and I think the only way they will be answered is to wander the earth on my own two feet, guided by my heart and intuition. I wanna experience everything I can and be the best I can be and I cant do this while Im sitting around working in the city. Gotsta let this free spirit soar. Its awesome to hear from so many others who feel the same. You've all inspired me.

I have moved 6 times this year. During the year I had gotten to much stuff, but now everything fits in 1 backpack & 1 suitcase. I usually travel by greyhound bus...even though usually when someone says they are going backpacking I think of someone hitch-hiking around somewhere.

In about five years, I'm doing this...
First warm days of spring, 2012...I grab a few things, drop everything, and go. Bringing a few folks with me, I think.

I can't answer those poll options.
    I've done it.
Not any more, I don't have the desire. I can say that it will definetly affect you in a big way. What that does to you as a person is your choice. Same as any other experience.
To anyone going I hope it makes you more kind, more real, more stand up, & more honest. Best wishes.

Don't think that you are running away. Take your first step knowing that it is ok. To not have a destenation is not to not have desteny. Remeber you are not throwing away anything, your out looking for more...isn't that a reallity? I'd bring my pet.

Done it when I was between 15 and 18 years old and again in my early 30s. Thank God I never had any real bad trouble. I always trusted He would protect me and He came through. I'd never trade the experiences I had on the road. I met people of all kinds, lived for months at a time among other nationalities and religions, made some very good friends. :) Yes, I hitchhiked and it was dangerous even then but for some strange reason I had more bad experiences walking in my own hometown than I ever did hitching all over the east coast. First, it takes a lack of responsibilities at home and second it takes some guts. More important than either is safety sense. Be careful. I use to hitch with only truckers. They're not only taking a chance if they do something illegal against you far as the general law goes. They're putting their job on the line as well. They can get on the mik and get you a new ride whenever they're ready to turn off where you catch another ride. Ask them to have the next truck pull up in front and take their license # so they can report it should they see your face on the news, God forbid. Never take a ride from someone who pulls over for you when you don't have your thumb out or take a ride in a car you previously seen going in a different direction and then turned around and is willing to go out of their way to take YOU somewhere. You may wind up where you don't want to be. If you're female, as I am, it can be scary. Make sure you are willing to be firm in saying NO! It may be safer to ride with truckers than others but it still is not completely safe. Know a lot about camping, etc. before hitching anywhere. I've been dropped off in a few remote areas a couple of times for turning someone down when asked for a piece of ass. In all honesty, I would try to talk you out of hitchhiking whether you are male OR female but if you're going to do it anyway, try your best to be safe. If you decide to hitch around for awhile, I ask blessings from The Lord for you. Things get more dangerous every day. Be safe. :leaving:

    Exactly snow tiger......."happiness is a direction,not a place"

I am doing a disappearing/rejuvenating trip as I speak...only I added a "hip" twist to it....I set out to meet people I have met here at the forums over the years...and it has proven to be quite rewarding

Dimensionality.....very good words of advice....me being the old school soul that I am....in todays world...no gender is safe..and every individual should be very aware of their surroundings and the situation....thanx for sharing those points of personal protection for those who are new to the world of road travel

I did it when I just turned 18. And again a couple months later. And I'm going to do it soon again. I separated all ties a couple of those times. You should try it man its exilerating. You feel so free and empowered, lonley, happy, depressed. It's like you get every human emotion when you're truely free.
