"You Know You're A Hippie When..."
If you still have and use your brownie recipe that includes ingredients that you cannot get at the local supermarket

If your Windows background, computer icons, or screen saver has something to do with the 60's.

Now in 2013, there is a new "wave" you could call it of what could be considered the (young) hippies or neo-hippies. There is only one problem, some of them don't have the same ideology and way of thinking as the originals did. Those who did think in the "old" way, I consider them the (young) hippies; anyone else would be neo-hippie (or even flower children) to me.

Your hair contains a fully functional eco-system.
You've ever put a flower is someone's hair.
Your child is named after a celestial object.
Answering "what's your favorite Dead song?" takes five minutes.
Breaking up with your girlfriend leaves you homeless.
You carry a picture of Gandhi in your wallet.
You're at a funeral and you light a joint after the eulogy.
You don't object to being labeled a hippie.
There's people you consider family and you don't know their last name.
Half your furniture is bean bags.
You're always getting pulled over and searched , and you're white.
Out of habit, you pass your cigarette to whoever’s sitting next to you.
You name you children Bud, Herb, and Mary-Jane.
    You roll perfect cigarettes.
You're still waiting for those flashbacks.
People you never met before ask if you can get them some weed.
You think 'All You Need Is Love' was written by Ghandi.
You can fall asleep in the mud under the rain.
You trespass onto private property to pick flowers.
If ... hey, what was I talking about?

    Yes

And there are bliss bunnies who claim they are but really aren't. They can be nasty to others sometimes - there was this one chick... no, she's one of the few I would go against all my ideals to call a bitch, actually... so, this bitch I met who had this rose, only it wasn't real and there was wire in the stem, and she was poking people with it for fun. I know because I as one of the victims... it bled a little. Not a problem for me, I'm not squeamish and I cleaned it real well, but you kinda get where I'm going with this... and it isn't a good direction.

I voted no... I'm 40% hippie, I'd say. i've been many things in the past - rasta, hardcore punk, metalhead, stoner, goth. can't seem to ever stick with one all the way.

Here are what I consider to be the pros and cons of hippies:

    Pros:
    -socially progressive
    -environmentalism/back to the land
    -anti-war
    -sixties film and literature
    -a lot of great music
    -socialism/feminism/egalitarianism/anti-capitalism
    -peaceful protest
-spiritual exploration/challenging of social or intellectual norms.

    Cons:
-movement was ruined by its superficialities
    -sex as a drug
    -drugs in general/drug culture
    -violent or militant protest groups
-too many irresponsible people only looking to get laid/high
    -pleasure-seeking, laziness and hedonism
    -burnouts/acid casualties
-some hippies can be extremely stupid or criminals, but they're probably fake or just look the part.

I really liked the early proto-hippies but I think as soon as the movement exploded it went to shit-- not unlike a lot of other movements. I like the hardworking idealists who don't overdo the drugs and have real ideas about society, natural harmony and spirituality... but I can't say I would ever or have ever called myself a hippie.

I have been called a hippy, been called Hip too. I dont follow a life style. I live in between where my parents would like me to be and where god would like me to be I think.
I am not religious in most people's eyes but I have my own religion and would not turn someone away if they fell really hard and needed a hand. My home is my church and I dont go to any other church to hand out money or take their interpretation of the bible.
If being a hippy is living in a bus then I am a hippy, lived in a motorhome several times even without power, showered at friends places.
If being a hippy is wearing clothes not sold at department stores by trend but rather in second hand stores or whats given then yes I am a hippy. I am not poor but I refuse to pay 60 bucks for a pair of jeans. Would rather buy a pair for 6 bucks that someone donated because they dont like the wear and tear on the knees,,, "those are gonna look so cool once they break through! Ya!"
I was told by my worker the other day that she wanted to french braid my hair because it was all over the place, she said I looked like a homeless person that day. Her honest is why I keep her but she wasnt allowed to braid my hair, hahaha. In fact I ruffled it up a bit more for her. Guys tell me it looks sexy. Women say I need to brush it three times a day rather then once a day.
Yup, I am a hippy I think. Or,,,,
Oh, and I didnt find this site by googling Hippy,,, it came up for a whole different reason and I said to myself,,, "Cool! Gonna like it here!" And I do. And yes, sex is a drug for me. If I dont get it enough I go right Ape shit on someone. But I dont use any kind of drug not prescribed for a good reason,,, lots of herbs and natural stuff tho.
