I can't honestly call myself a hippie. While I think that TV is one the whole, boring, and rarely watch it, I enjoy using my computer. I get stuff yelled at me, from "hobo" to "goth" and really, I think it's all shit. I rarely buy clothes, I last bought a shirt in January, and £10 jeans from a shop called Kojak last November. I don't know much about the 60s, and the hippie "movement", although reading books about it is eglightenig me on it. I like blues, rock, pop, soul jazz, and metal. It all depends on my mood. I don't really rely on my parents as a source of income, although they do give me money. Honestly, i'd rather earn my own money, than leach off my parents. Ay money my parents give me, I work for it, unlike some I know. I'm not a vegetarian, although it has appealed to me. I really don't care for dolling myself up with "hippie" clothing, i'd rather not put much of my income on clothing. I don't have my ears pierced yet, although it is probably only a matter of time. I have shoulder-length black hair, which I admit right now is a complete mess. I don't like war. I don't think the War on Iraq accomplished much. However, some wars cannot be avoided, and are probably best dealt in that way. However, I don't like violence much.

    Pfft......sorry to ramble on:)

Maybe i am wrong, but you guys talk ALOT about clothes and the way you look and move. I know a few hippies.. no, i think we are all hippies, they are my best friends. We are just ordinary, young, lousy and hasjsmoking almost grown-up humans. however we do believe in freedom and we think peace and especially love is a very powerfull thing. :)

The never-ending questions on this site is: are we hippies? well, the real 'old school' hippies don't have a computer or internet and the real harmonybelievers moved to the mountains or elsewhere, they don't want to be a part of this system/society, but that is something i don't agree with. We are all here together and we must be all together and learn from eachother. but hey, that's my opinion.
Are we hippies? Well, i you have felt the freedom and love..then you are hippy.

Peace to you all and see you later,
    (greetings from the netherlands)

I just like dressing different from the average person. I don't care what it is. That's one reason I wear a straw hat everywhere I go and flip flops in the winter. I do it just to piss people off.

I'm kinda hippie, kinda not see I wear shorts and flip-flops all the time but sometimes I wear my led zeppelin shirts or just a t-shirt and I barely ever wear colorful clothes or shirts with flowers on them. I stand way out in the crowds and always have different opinions, so call me what you wish but I consider myself 6-8 on the scale.

I can't believe someone would actually make a topic about if your an "open" hippie. If you go to dead shows not everyone there is wearing tye-dyes or has dreds, instead you see lawyers, doctors, and other business men there. Being a hippie is not about what you wear, or what you watch on tv, its a state of mind.

id call myself a hippie. i spend most of my time outside. im a very easy goin guy. i hate commercialism and capitalism. im a very thrifty fellow. i shower only when needed. wash my clothes when they need to be. ive bben wearin the same cut off corduroy shorts for 6 weeks with out washin em and wearin em everyday. im never afraid of expressing my opinion whether i like you or not. ill say what i want and do what i want so long as it doesnt hurt anyone. and im very accepting of other people's views. i never try to push anything on anyone unless im using the argument of "come on." the "hippy" look, well that comes from my long hair shaggy face and appeance of complete apathy for how i show myself. im a very knowledgable person on many things in life, historically, in nature, with literature, music, and writing. SNOOP DOGG!

I'm a hippie, although I'm not trying to be one. My friend said I was barefooting because I was trying to be a hippie, which is unture, because I was just trying to be me. Being a hippie is about finding your own style and sticking to many non-conformist ideals, like vegetarianism and nudism. I'm pro-life and do have a concern for Earth, but I know that our world is going to change a lot in a decade or two because there will be a pinch for natural resources; might as well keep it as nice as possible.

I'm also exploring the concept of naturism, so I may qualify for your idea of a hippie. I don't wear tie-dye a lot though, I don't have any tie-dye anyhow; but I love hemp.

id probably rate myself around a 6.5-7. I love classic rock, its all i really listen to because its the only music that really speaks to me on a personal level. Especially at lunchs at school, all the rapper kids make fun of me because ill go into a forest near our school and just put on some thing like Bob Dylan or Blind Faith and just sit around in the forest alone, watching nature. Or after school ill go around picking up garbage to clean up the school, because i hate seein squirells or other animals getting caught in like plastic bags or something and god forbid dying. I also always get made fun of by even my teachers because, i firmly believe that T.V has ruined socitey and people need to get back to going outside and doing things there not just sitting inside and watching T.V. but people loyality to T.V is crazy and if you insult that then theyll like kill you. But for clothes, most of shirts are all band t-shirts that i made myself of like Pink Floyd and Jimi and Cream, im trying to find some tye-dye dye to dye my shirts with but its hard to find around here. But ya thats my life story.

but what makes a hippie? just to play devils advocate, youre saying a hippie is someone who has their own style, yet to be a hippie i also have to dress a certain way have a certain attitude, love earth and listen to certain music. wheres my own style in that?

everyone calls me a hippie- since i was very young.
Most of my clothing is patchwork, tie dyed or batiked or what have you(just generally 'hippie' clothing) thats just my style. ive always liked the 'peasant' or 'gypsy; clothing look. again, thats just me.

i wear minimal makeup if any, my favorite perfume has been patchouli since i found an old bottle of my aun'ts in my grandmothes basement at the age of 7.

All of my shoes are clogs and sandals, i just like them better then heels or sneakers.

My favorite bands have been the dead, cat stevens, dylan etc since i was very young, partially because i grew up on my parents vinyl.

Ive been a vegetarian since i was 8 or 9... my own decision not my parents.. they love their beef.

etc etc (you get the drift)

but at the same time, i read cosmo sometimes, just for fun (and the sex tips usually arent too bad :) ) i watch mtv/vh1 sometimes, mostly because im obsessed with music, sometimes because i find a band or two i actually like) i cant watch the news anymore (long story, but i get frustrated/angry) i watch tv.. not american idol type stuff, i'll agree with you there.)

i guess what im saying is i have my own style in other ways, but the way i dress- what was my own style all throughout school, is now just seen as my conforming to become accepted by the 'hippie' group.

Ive, as i said, always been called ahippie, part of why i came to this site in the first place, to meet other people who are like me/share common interests.

but isnt what makes a hippie a hippie more on the inside, their beliefs and values etc... (though im not convinced that hippies still exist or if they were a thing of the 60s/early 70s) but someone can be for equailty, peace, freedom, love, cleaner earth... whatever constitutes hippidom and still wear designer jeans and a pink fitted polo shirt- cant they? thats their individual style.

just my musings. dont mean to argue with you. i dont like the teeni boppers calling themselves hippies because they like to toke up... it goes way beyond that to me... i totally see where youre coming from... i guess just venting a bit/ and shedding light on the other point of view!!

I show my hippyness openly. Everyone at school knows I'm a hippy. I don't fight, argue, accept others for who they are, etc....

It's not so much that I show my inner hippiness, it's more that my inner hippiness shows me.

I don't call myself a hippie but everyone else does. I think it's because I'm one of the thirty people in the city who doesn't like Bush or S.U.Vs, and I'm always raging against cars and materialism and I actually give a damn about the earth.

Then again, it's probably just the hair. What's the actual way to spell hippie? I've seen it spelled with a 'y' and an 'ie'.
