I got my first cell phone back in 2001; a Nokia 5120. As the technology evolved, along with having my phones break, get stolen, or go missing forever, I'm on my 15th phone which is an iPhone 5.

My best guess is around 5 phones. My favorite by far is the first phone I ever got. This was a Nokia device of an older technology than we have today and had lots of interchangeable face-plates you could get for it. I seem to remember sporting a lime green cell for a little while with that phone.

I miss that phone, and since we have a newer technology now there's no way to switch back to it. This may have been before SIM cards.

My bother had one, and he was the one who sold me on Nokia. It is a good thing I did not put too much into Nokia stocks.....I am not that stupid.....It was $500.00 at the time.
I was making good money working hard at a tough job, then.....

My first Nokia 5120 was great when it was new. I loved it only because of the thrill of finally having my own cell phone back in those days. Snake was the only game I had on it. But it didn't age well and it gave me a ton of headaches. It would turn off for no reason, the battery life was short, and it was just a garbage phone in the end. I had a Motorola Razr at one point. It was awesome having such a thin phone. I remember how cool that phone was at its time. No that I have a smart phone, there's just no way I could ever own a pre-2009 phone without apps ever again.

7 or 8 maybe? My first phone wasn't hooked to a plan, you just bought minutes for it - my mom gave it to me when I started driving with 400 minutes on it and those lasted me almost a year. I actually think I just kinda forgot about the phone after a while and lost it. I was still all about that landline life.

^ yeah, my first was a prepaid that my mom got me when i started driving too. pretty sure there were way fewer than 400 minutes and i still never went through them.

i think my junior year of college was when i really started using a cellphone regularly. i had a regular cell with a plan by then, but i still never used it until late that year when i moved into an apartment without a landline.

the first half of college was during the period that a large percentage of social planning was done via AIM.

the first one was after my wife died and i had to give up the house we had together been renting. it was a pay as you go trackphone.
that was some time in 2009 or 10. then, after i moved up here, sometime in 2012, after my pension started kicking in, i ended up getting another one.
then i was given a 'smartphone' someone had jailbroken, which was a pain in the ass to get it going, which cost too much for what use i had for it,
which has now been replaced by a fresh contracted one, that gets paid automatically by the bank, at a much more reasonable rate i can afford,
which i still haven't gotten any real use out of, other then as a fancy pocket watch that keeps accurate time, date and weather report.

seriously wish i could go back to having a land line and to hell with the damd things.
(preferably with broadband fiber optic right to my modem, instead of wi-fi to someone else's router)
so anyway that makes a grand total of 4 of them.

Approximately 12 beginning in 1997 with the Motorola d160. If the battery died the phone would accept AA batteries

I love my Samsung S6, even though 90% of the stuff on it Ill never use, and it cant autocorrect for shit

But the Nokia 3310, those were the days, drop, you didnt give yourself a heart attack about breaking the screen, you could put it in the same pocket as your keys, you could actually fit it in A pocket, throw the thing around, never have to worry about breaking it
