So, let's see how difficult it would be to spend one billion dollars in the next 25 years of your life.

For starters you would have to spend 40 million dollars each and every year. That would mean spending over 3 million dollars each month. Breaking it down even farther, it means you would have to spend over $100,000 every day for the next 25 years in order to spend one billion dollars.

There are many billionaires in the USA, China & the Middle East. Why isn't a Universal law passed restricting the amount of loot any individual or family may possess? Maybe set the ceiling at say $20 billion dollars net worth and everything over and above that amount is forfeited annually to the State via the IRS.This income to be used soley for the upliftment of the poorest of the poor across the planet.

Okay so maybe it sounds like Communism but China is a Communist state with many many very wealthy people.

Only problem will be finding a way to stop the corrupt politicians from grabbing the money for themselves. Still there must be a way?

    What do you think?

I think There is also many many dirt poor people in China too.

I know that I would give a lot, ensure that my family and friends would be financially set for life. I would set up scholarships as well. Grants, would give to native people here in Canada and fix their problem with regards to clean drinking water. Trust Fuchs for my nieces and nephew too, Not make their life easy, but ensure they would be able to educate themselves. I wouldn’t want them to become spoiled and know they have to work too, life is work and they are not entitled. Life isn’t easy. Take a chunk out of the national debt, which would be a waste because the government would just see it as a reason to spend what I took away... so scratch that.

my neighbour won the lottery, a few million. they never moved, never bought a new car, not sure what they did, but they didn’t throw it all away.

well it takes several weeks for large transfers to clear the bank, but if you've already got a shopping list made up, then just about as long as it takes to fill it.

personally i'd rater have the security of making it stretch for the rest of my life, rather then being in any kind of a hurry to get it spent.
and like with just getting your hands on it, even once its yours, any really big purchases have to go through some sort of escarole type process.

oh there are a couple of big things on my shopping list. one of which is a piece of land, that i could build little houses on and let people live in.

i have a long shopping list of green causes i would contribute to, possibly create endowments for, if any didn't already have one.

also experimental investments in community concepts and infrastructure. really i'd want to build a kind of demonstration village.

i don't think i'd want to stay in the u.s. to do any of this, but that would depend entirely on which way the cultural consensus goes.

i'd buy a small mountainous forested nation, if any were for sale, but not really, because negotiations would take longer then i'm likely to still have to live.
but that does bring up the idea of rejuvination treatments. i wonder how may people with that scale of means are investing in research in that direction.

and yah, i'd consider direct genetic modification to become a real anthro and hope it gave me more life instead of killing me.
i don't think crisp-x (its beyond -r now) may not have too much further to go to make that possible, but i'm not claiming to know that.

so how long it would take me to spend? hopefully the rest of my natural (or unnatural as the case might be) life.

if i already had some kind of career, i'd just stay in it, though with a lot less anxiety, without the anxiety that has prevented me from ever actually pursuing one.
you know, like that guy qwill, in the cat who mysteries. i'd probably hang out in some university engineering shop, half the time, the other half wandering around out in the woods.

like the neighbor above, i wouldn't be in any big hurry to try and impress anyone with it. for me, the whole wonderful thing would be not having to try and impress anyone.
i really don't need very much in life other then to not have to worry about anything.
so yah, i'd probably have to set up some kind of foundation to handle the details of giving most of it where i'd want it to be given.

Lottery winnings are not taxed in Canada, it is all yours. The government runs the lotteries here. So they get the profits. They win, most lose. I couldn’t spend it all, but I would definitely get a nice piece of land with a waterfall on the property, near water and trees for myself.

I wouldn’t mind converting an old wooden water tower into a home, or living in a treehouse. Wouldn’t mind living in a light house either, I would be near water, :).

I wouldn’t waste it, make sure those I care for are taken care of and set up grants, trusts, etc. Protect it from government money grabs in profits made. I don’t think I could spend it all in my lifetime, no matter how hard I tried.

Nah, Bloomberg spent half that in like a month. Imagine if he stayed in the race 2 months?
