so just wondering are you trying to say your dreads that were "grown" are better than my dreads that were "made"?

again not trying to start shit just wondering because either way when all is said and done both ways will produce dreads

not advocating either method, but despite both resulting in dreadlocks, the locks usually do look significantly different.

I went neglect for 4 months. If you do you get dreads you should backcomb. The dreads I got from neglect are flat and only fat at the bottom. The ends are stringy. I had a girl backcomb my hair recently and the dreads she produced are actually cylindrical and nice to touch. Some have fallen apart and the ones that are there aren't fully locked, but they're already better than the ones i took 4 months to grow. but everyone's hair is different. I've seen some awesome all natural. My hair is caucasian and straight/wavy

In my opinion, I would say yes. Only because dreadlocks ARE natural. It just feels wrong to make your hair into dreads, when it can happen on it's own.

    oh my fucking god.

i'm so tired of the dread elitism.

we all have dreadlocks. who cares how they're made?!?!?

    grrrrrrrr

i don't insult people who went neglect nor do i tell everyone interested in dreads to backcomb immediately! or tell them they'll regret doing it one way over another.

    stfu.

sorry but they both look like matted hair too me

honestly im just trying to get enayes to stop saying you'll regret doing it a certain way and learn to ask if the person is interested in the neglect method first

no actually natural dreads would be one singular dread because to be completely natural and not tainted by man kinds hands you would have never touch your hair again

and im guessing that you wash your hair and you might rip apart dreads that are growing together too much

so in some ways your "natural" dreads aren't so "natural"

and anyways i was talking of the end result of both ways producing dreads not whether they were natural or not and not if they look different from each other and not about if they were grown or made because all that matters is that the people that want dreads are reaching their end goal of having matted hair no matter what the method is

There is nothing unnatural about touching your hair with your hands, so please don't try to compare that to backcombing/twist n rip. It sounds ridiculous. Also I am not trying to put other methods down, of course I hold the natural method above others, who wouldn't?

In regards to me always recommending people to try natural, I will continue to do so. There are way to many people on this forum who are too quick to suggest backcombing/other methods. It's as if it's now cool to just backcomb your hair and not even try it on your own.

To be fair, twist and rip (if you do it yourself) is just touching your hair with your hands.

Well there is a big difference, with one your just separating the knots that were already formed, and with the other your making the knots. I guess it doesn't bother most people, but I can't imagine doing it.

if you rip your natural dreads apart they are no longer growing naturally because if you were to let your hair dread completely natural your hair would obviously be one big dread

If the knots formed on their own, then they are natural.
