When booking holidays, we always look at TripAdvisor. Reading the posts, that found both the accommodation and food very good. The star rating was dropped because of the Wi-Fi connection. Can we not live without the internet even on holiday?
While I agree, it depends on how much data you have on your phone and how much it costs to add additional data. Sometimes after a day out where you may have been using your phone anyway for directions, messaging or uploading photos it can be a little annoying and expensive (data wise) to come back to the hotel and have to use more of your own data to check emails, messaging and browsing. So while certainly people can be too dependent on the internet, it is often a necessity in the modern world and WiFi can make things easier and cheaper.
Very important indeed Candy. I likely woulfn't go stay there if no Wi Fi. I just gotta be able to do me spend at least a little time on E. Mails and business and stuff.
Well I have 100 gig monthly sim free roll over data plan with Virgin, so 200 gig sometimes so no need to worry about running out!
I don't really care about having internet, although it is helpful on holiday to look up reviews and recommendations for activities and restaurants. Data is good to have though, mostly for using maps. It can be difficult to navigate an international city where you do not speak the language. Google Maps is a life saver in that situation, but without international data, you have to rely on people who don't necessarily share a language with you, and that can present a challenge (obviously not impossible, just inconvenient at times).
I went on a vacation to a rural cabin up in the mountains 2 years ago. No wifi or cell phone signals. It was a good detox from all things internet. It was hard at first, but then you appreciate the littler things more.
I thought that the idea of a holiday was to get away from the pressures of everyday life for a few weeks. We take our phones in case or family emergency, but everything else can wait until we return. Believe it or not, the earth will still be rotating without your emails and when we get home, catching up on what out friends have been doing is all part of the fun,.
does anybody who isn't retired actually get to take off for a few weeks at a time? anyway, i agree on the emails, at least for the most part. but that's not everything you use the internet for obviously. if you consider something like hipforums to be a pressure of everyday life, you're taking hipforums way too seriously.
Whenever i travel its no internet, no television, and no phones. Even when traveling internationally you can still get around without phones or internet. Especially if you plan things out in advance.
I will try and take your advice on our next holiday at the end of this month Wilsjane, as you do make some good points there. But I wouldn't bank on it!
For me, in-room WiFi is mandatory. I usually set it as a search filter if the website provides that as a feature. And it should be "free" in-room WiFi.
