Just get dreads! If you want to, then dont listen to people who are shallow. Besides, dreadlocks are beautiful and they will look so great on you because your hair has a nice thick and curly structure *breathes* yeah thats about it, just go for it!

Yeah you would look great but keep in mind that it is a lot of work. Also white people do not have as much oil in their hair as black people so you have to keep them clean or they will stink! I have a friend in high school that had dreads and his were nasty smelling, ugh! He eventually had to shave his head, oh yeah keep that in mind to if you get tired of them they are so hard to grow out. But You would look great.

You could always try twists for a bit to see if it suits you (yeah- I know it's not the same).

thanks hippiemichael :D that's very insightful. and drumminmama had an excellent point as well, i hadn't even thought of other cultures being offended, i certainly dont want to do that...but on the other hand once someone gets to know who i am on the inside, i really think they would see past the dreads. that is my hope anyway. i think once you get dreadlocks you need to be prepared to be accountable for yourself, because they kind of draw attention obviously lol. and you always want to think to yourself "what kind of impression do i leave on people?" it's my hope that i can spread the love and leave my impact in a positive way :]

I'd so have to disagree. Wouldn't that be the other way around about white people? I mean, the oil accumulates more and there's more need to wash it out very frequently.

I've noticed that AA(Black) hair tends to be drier and more fragile than white hair. Is one of the reasons why many Black people don't wash their hair everyday. I mean I do, but that's because I'm dreading and like clean hair. Personally, the only way my hair doesn't turn into a ragweed pile is if I make the effort to put in some jojoba or something.
