...I've seen uglier...:toetap05: ...yeah, go for it...I have curly hair as well, and much prefer dreads...although the first few months are going to be a little messy...you either can deal with it or you can't...so be prepared. Your hair should knot up relatively fast with that texture.
yeah if your faced changed when you got dreads then no...but thank god it doesnt! you are beautiful and dreads have a lot of lessons to teach, do and you will love it, but the first month is a bitch!
i never held the notion that if you're a vegatarian and do volunteer work it means you'd be a good candidate for dreads lol. it's just if you want them or not. plain and simple. you seem to be worried about how you will look with them, and i understand that, but the biggest part of dreads is not how you look, it's how you are on the inside and how they transform you.
you're completely right nymphsue, thanks . i understand what you mean about who you are on the inside and i dig what you're saying. great insight, makes me want to start knotting up even more now! thanks everyone for the feedback!! i appreciate it a lot, the positive and the negative. i'm going to thailand here in a month so when i get back to the states i'm gonna start the process, as i wont be able to give my new dreads the proper care they need at first when i'm in thailand. i'll get update pics up for sure! sorry you think i'm full of shit unggoi, youre entitled to your own opinion, man, even if it doesn't pertain to my question .
what do u mean you wont be able toi give em the proper care in rhailand? dont ya know a huge nimber of dreads who dreaded naturaly happened while on the road or o n a trip when they couldnt take proper care of theyre straight haor? 3 weeks on the road in the woods or just away from a mirror has led to more accidental dreads then anything take advantage of the trip to just let go and let em happen
i'm with soaring eagle on this one. starting your dreads is as easy as not brushing or conditioning and using a residue-free shampoo.
i hate people sometimes like somepeople will say get dreads and dont let people pressure you into cutting your lock. and those same people try and pressure people into going natural. so stop being fncking hypocrites. if you wanna back comb dont let the dreadelitist pressure you theres is nothing wrong with backcombing.
oh another thing if you go natural, and you separate your dreads and touch them isnt that contradicting the natural process because you are interfering, really natural isnt so much different then backcombin
haha i for one am not pressuring her. i'm just saying it's not a very high maintenance hairstyle... judging from her pictures and the way she is asking if dreads will look good on her, she is very conscience of her hair and her looks. dreads are not generally seen as a fashion statement - rather, they are more of a lesson in letting go of control and materialistic values. i backcombed my dreads, too. even if she does want to backcomb them, what is the harm in starting them on her trip? i didn't brush my hair for weeks before i actually backcombed mine.. quit being so cranky. she asked for advice and people are giving it to her.
hahaha yeah, cuz there aren't any hippies out there with curly long hair i am not really a hippie but i gotz dreads... goes either way.
As beautiful as she is, I feel she should get them. She won't know until she tries it, right? By the way, this is suddenly reminding me of the other dreads thread with amorilateLJ, the cute redhead girl.
I think they'd be a cinch to take care of if you make the Peace Corps. BUT I'd ask a recruiter about how the region's locals would look at dreads. You'd not want to distance them from what you are doing. flipping the bird to society is encouraged in the West. Not so in many of the areas PC works in.
