Forgot to mention that my mom has a 73 mercury montego with a 351 (don't know windsor or cleveland) and my brother said back in the 80s he got it to do a solid 120 but it shook so bad that it was scary as hell. I hope one day i can get that car on the road again, but for now the only obstacle is permission. My mom's plan for it is to sit in front of an empty garage completely exposed to the weather. SHe WANTS it to die a slow death. there must be some kind of intervention. She wont even let me push it in to the damn garage. It hasnt been started in about 7 years

It was to overtake a line of campers on a mountain crest and I had clear road for days ahead of me so I took it.

I don't speed much anymore, I top out at 75 mph cause I'm getting old and cautious. I have a blown Miata that I never beat, although I have to watch myself on twisty roads.

I've hit 120 in my crazy dazes and ridden in cars that the speedo tops out at 120. Don't do that no more.

Left the road one time at 100 mph in my old '63 Dodge Dart, mowed down a field of wheat and kept it going till I regained the road then had to stop and change a rear tire as it popped off the rim. Really stupid, could'a been killed.

I don't like to speed anymore.

    Fastest personally, about 125 in one of these;

not that exact car, but same model/year, etc.

then as a passenger, 155 in one of these; (one of the other guys in the car started to cry and literally pissed himself)

now the craziest was in the same car, on the freeway, 95 MPH, behind a cement truck, with NO WINDSHIELD!!!!!

those little bits of concrete fucking hurt

Fastest in a car was a 00' vette unrestricted and went 172mph GPS.

Most power and get you to top speed, A 10' charger unrestricted, Wrecked and re-built cop car. 6.1L Hemi, 3" true duel, 158mph and a lot of highway left, Just wanted to make sure 150 was tight and safe. GPS verified

Fastest ever gone, 96' GSXR 1157 sport bike, 186mph GPS and cop speed gun. Didn't know they went that high, But I guess they do. It was a clear hard surface road and the deputy was real cool and wanted to see what 'it would do'.

Most speedometers start falling off over 65-70mph, Loosing a percentage so you think you are going faster than you are. Not as bad on older cars, Trucks and bikes, But the new ones with FI and computers it inevitable. That's why I always grab a GPS to cross check and get a ballpark. You can bypass the bullshit, But speedo will never be dead on in triple digits.

I try to take everything I have up to 100 once ... and settle for that.

I think I've had the SLK up to about 105 - 110, but at that speed everything starts to get a bit scary :O

My husband used to go 140 mph in his '78 Impala going to Dallas or back and forth to his university (an hour and 15 minute drive if you drove the actual speed limit, he made it in about half an hour most the time). I thank everything that is holy I did not know him during those times and that the Impala is parked because it's just so risky and stupid.

    175+ in a modded C5 corvette

160+ many many times in SN95 mustangs with auto-x suspension and the right gearing. Torque arm setups/etc.

Drove a stock car and had it at 7500 rpm in 4th gear most of the time, no speedo, but was probably 150-160.

160 on a bike and it still had plenty of gear, throttled back. Fuck that shit.

In a car that's not like the bricks with wheels listed in here.. once you hit 120+ it tucks down on its suspension and is very stable and smooth.

But I've grown up. I still have a very fast car on my driveway and I've only had it to like 90. And that was momentarily.

Meh. I don't understand the whole "need for speed" thing. I've been in a car driving 100 plus and it was just terrifying. You gotta think that when you are going that fast in the car your BODY is also traveling that fast, not just the vehicle. Your whole self is going 100 miles per hour and if you hit something your body is going to go from 100 to 0 and it isn't going to be pretty.

160 to 165kph downhill......estimated because the speedo didnt go that high

not very impressive until you realize it was a plymouth reliant 4 cyl 4 speed floor shift

big curve at the top of the far crest now bears a cross to mark the spot where i guy i knew crashed and died

Dude, you gotta try a new Challenger.

At near 115 I felt like I was going 55. The tach was even half asleep.

In the 24 hours I had that car, my foot was tired from not pushing on the gas pedal as much as I wanted to. And it even got good gas mileage too.

I think if I could afford to buy any super car, I would still want a Challenger as my daily driver, it was that nice to drive.

I can only imagine what a suped up version of one could do, like an RT.

/and the cup holders light up at night! :2thumbsup:

Oh yeah, they are very nice. I've driven a bunch of customers cars. But I don't dog them like I've done to my cars and friends cars. Not only is it just shitty to do to someone's investment but the last thing I want to do is wreck one.

Another badass hemi car is the grand cherokee srt8. A guy around here has one with a big turbo :drool5:
