Tomatoes, beans, peas, peppers, lettuce, and zucchini doing well. Planted three artichoke plants outside of the garden fence. Two were completely gone by morning, pulled right from the ground.

    May have been aliens.

Or maybe squirrels. My neighbor used to watch them pull out every tulip bulb she planted. They would take one bite out of every tomato on my vines, green or red.

Today I am planting a grape vine. I know it's too late for grapes this season. I want the leaves for my lactose-fermented kosher dill pickles.

    I don't know about that...
    Because we have squash.
There are different kinds of squash, too. It's not one thing.

Ah, some people appear to call them "yellow squash".. But also another thing is yellow squash. And ALL can be called "summer squash", including the green ones. One of those annoying word issues where everyone is right and wrong simultaneously.

Anyway to stay on topic, yesterday I planted out sweetcorn, courgettes (not sure which colour!) and runner beans. Put new rows of salad leaf seeds in.

Yeah I should have been more specific...your plant looks like what we refer to as summer squash here

We call the long yellow zucchini looking squash, summer squash
And the smaller, curved yellow squash crookneck squash

I still don't think so. In the section about zucchini here What’s the Difference Between Zucchini and Yellow Squash? it notes there is extra confusion because there is a yellow variety.. And the description of the shape of a summer squash isn't right for my plant. It's exactly the same as the green courgettes (zucchini) except golden variety. Plus I know what a squash/summer squash is, we definitely have those too, fitting the shape description : )

Actually never mind my research, I just realized I was about to link the same source you just linked :tearsofjoy:

So I've always thought there were two varieties of yellow squash..the long straight yellow that looks just like zucchini, and the crookneck (fat on the bottom, slightly curved) ....but I guess the long straight zucchini looking variety IS actually zucchini! Huh, you learn something new every day

We used to grow cushaw squash, which some people called crooked neck squash. Big, green striped things. Hell to peel.

There has been no rain for about two weeks and none forecast until next Thursday (and predictions more than two days ahead I don't really listen to) so watering everything is a long job at the moment, doing outside as well as in the tunnel.

I saw the first tomato turning colour this evening.

There are so many cucumbers that I have taken to eating one a day the way people eat an apple.

I have three cucumbers about ready to pick. The vines seem to be dying off. a few small cucumbers are coming on. Tomatoes stopped blooming. I don't know what's going on with my plants,

The last two years I was using pretty cheap potting compost, and this year I bought a more expensive one. I don't know if that is the reason, but both the courgette and cucumber plants are producing way more fruits.
