No such thing as stupid questions. And anal sex that hurts she is doing It wrong. Like you say it's a tiny hole and by what you say I figure you have not done this much so. Over time you will get used to that one finger and it will start to feel less filled up (even in one session) once that happens you can start and trie to put in a second finger etc... Over time and depending how often you do it your anus will get used to being penetrantet and relax more easily allowing biger objects to enter without any pain.
Yeah don't feel strange or bad asking a question like this. Hell one of the main purposes of the internet is so you can ask embarrassing questions to millions of strangers online which you wouldn't tell your best friend. So couple things. One is lubrication, it's essential, vital. I cannot stress how important it is. If you're using some now, double or triple the amount. yes it may get messy but I don't think there's such thing as too much lube... Secondly the anus muscle "sphincter" is a muscle that is always contracted involuntary and unless you are pooping it's next to impossible to relax it or open it up, but here's where experience comes into play. So equally as important as lube is the mental ability to relax enough such that your sphincter will relax and open up. And this is not a normal operation for this muscle, so it's similar to say deep-throating (which as a straight guy I've never tried) where your body naturally wants to gag and kick it out. It's similar with your bum too. It naturally wants to remain shut and push things out, not open up and let things come in. As something tries to enter it, it wants to reject it, tighten and push it out. Again while you may think of this as a physical development it's actually way more mental. The ability to relax mentally so you can get your physical parts to also relax takes time and practice. And then add on top of that if you ever try anal sex with a girl you need to understand this because if you try to enter too quick or go to fast it will zap her out of her mentally relaxed state, she'll tighten up and it will be very painful. Last word of advise, make sure you don't loose the tip of the sharpie up there
Unless you want to end up with a really embarrassing trip to the ER, I would recommend only using flanged items for anal play. You're lucky you didn't lose that Sharpie up your bum.
Being very crude - have a good look at what you deposit in the toilet sometimes. There's your answer. The hole might be tight but the actual receiving chamber, aka rectum, will take a normal human penis quite easily.

the sphincter is very tight and has to be loosened with silicon lube and start with one finger, then work up to two. You never need to go past the first knuckle and you just massage.
