How does free trade broaden the gap between the rich and poor?

We are always told a rising tide floats all boats. I think it's time we let those boats sit it out on dry land, especially when they never seem to find room on their boats for us. Why not let them haul their damn boats out to surf without us.

But it isn't up to you to decide how other countries decide to divide their income, or to fix their inability to maintain a democracy. Sovereignty, and so forth.

 

But it is up to me to question the ethics of corporations from the US that exploit the resources from foreign countries, while supporting an unfair distribution of income. As an economic power, we have a responsibility to the rest of the world to set an example of fair business practices, while discouraging unfair business practices in the form of sanctions. Of course, that doesn't happen because our business "leaders" are more concerned about their profits than they are about everyone's well being, and our government doesn't force them to play fair because our politicians are owned by the corporations.

 

Would you care to make the argument?

It is one thing to say, it is another thing to prove.

 

Then why the war in Iraq? Isn't it all about spreading democracy.

 

i could start with the fact that realistae companies are moving there ops. to europe .To make up for the decline in the housing market... Rather than seeing the fall as help for our lower classand middle class people. Who could now maybe buy a house they wouldn't have been able to afford.

That the american made car companies are jacking up the prices on there cars forcing Americans to buy foriegn cars .which is puting thousands of good people out of jobs. Giving them to people who are told to hate us.
while are president is busy playing cowboys and Indians are people are going without.
Their desrtacting us with Imigration.Telling us our problems lie on our borders.
Why.???? How is it that we should more worried about hard working people trying to get ahead in life and out of a counrty ran by drug smugglers?
They don't want anything more than any of us...
There our neighbors....If we started making cheeper converted cars .more people would want them more people would buy them.Most Americans would rather by American made cars if its made right and not outragouesly priced..
Its called supply and demand...
we iliminated just a third of our international trade.You could increase demand ..
Put alot of good people to work.
There would be moire jobs to go around..
We should be focusing our trade in Canada and Mexico..

We need to come back to America peopel!!!!!!!!!

I could re-iterate the multiple arguments already stated on this thread, or I could post a list of links I found on sweatshops or unfair trade practices while doing a google search, which you may or may not shoot down as lacking in credibility, but I won't waste my time. Instead, I will leave it to the reader to disprove what I say if you disagree. Call it a cop out, I don't care.

We as consumers can make a difference by boycotting goods which are produced in sweat shops in China or elsewhere if we are aware of the conditions under which the stuff is produced, but that's not always an easy thing to do. They don't print "made in a sweat shop" on the label (though made in China's close enough for me). In a capitalist economy, greed and opportunism trumps social conscience, so just as we have government watchdog organisations like the FDA to protect us as consumers, we should also have governmental oversight when it comes to fair trade practices of our corporations in foreign countries.

 

of course thats true an easy fix would be that everyone could just read labels .
You can also get govermental programs to over see the specail intrests in international trade.
Ist..The government is making to much money off of doing it the easy cheap way.
2nd Americans as a majority are selfish people, we are the ones who created are lazy
crooked government. Simply because if its not in our own back yard we dont care...
Why should the government fix something nobody bitchs about?
The sad truth is most American children are being neglected and abused and we don't care. Their not going to care about some poor china kid from The Philippines..Or ant where else for that matter.
The fact is I care you may.. care but how do we go from a few single nuts to a whole damn Oak tree?????

 

What does Canada have to offer us? Trash? Well thats basically it, all of canadas trash is brought to michigan so I guess thats a good trade to focus on. And we do trade a lot with mexico, I dont know if you have family in the automotive industry? Or refrigerator business?

 

Even if you could prove it nobody will take time out of there daily pleasures to prove it .
Say what you want spell it out to them..
There still not going to care until its just finished burning your house and all your prize possesions and even still all you can think about is geting everything back to normal as quick as possible. Then just go on ignoring the world agian telling our children its going to be Ook. Instead of prepareing them for what we will soon lay in their laps to clean it all up.
Hell their to busy shooting up schools and other children to get an education, because nobody fuckin cares about them..
their SSSOOOO many problems you could address in this counrty.In our own livingrooms even . much less every else in this poor unfortunate world...
