i'm gonna try that rain water-chamomile thing.

a friend of mine put baby powder in her hair right after combing it while wet and didn't touch it or get it wet and in 10 days she had perfect little dreads.

i think i'll try that over the summer, while i'm away

I have thick, shoulder-long, dry hair. I don't wash it often, it is so think and dry, it never gets greasy so who cares? Also, when my hair is first wet and then dries ( by leting it dry by itself or drying it, doens't matter) it gets so messud up and I hate brushing messed up hair. I don't brush my hair often too.

so, if you wash it less often, does that have any impact of the thickness of the hair?

I don't like washing my hair too much, although I like the just-washed really soft feeling. I used to just leave it for ages at a time, but lately I've been washing it a bit more because my head's started getting itchy after about a week or so; dunno if it's just the weather, or something.

_I tried the 'no poo' method & it made my natural unruly curls much more manageable; this method makes sense [at least to me] if you have dry/curly hair because you wouldn't want your hair to be stripped of it's natural oils [which happens with sodium lauryl sulfate and/or sodium laureth sulfate]

The idea is to 'conditioner wash', wash your hair with a light conditioner just like you would do if you were using regular shampoo. The only problem I found with this method is that I wear a lot of products on my hair [leading to built-up], work out everyday & that I live in a country with hot weather, therefore my scalp never felt 'fresh & clean'.

Therefore I tried some of these alternatives to shampoo [found on MotownGirl.com]

    1. Mix about 3 parts conditioner to 1 part lemon juice. I use bottled lemon juice instead of juice from a real lemon. It's much easier and I don't have to deal with pulp and seeds. [Personal favorite]
    2. Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda to 1 cup of warm water (use 1 tbps. to 2 cups of warm water). For longer hair, use 2-3 tbs. of baking soda with 32 oz of warm water. You can place the mixture in a spray bottle or just pour it over your hair. Massage it in, rinse out well and use a conditioner afterwards.
    3. Mix a little baking soda with your conditioner.
    4. Use a 'clarifying conditioner', such as VO5 Kiwi & Lime.
    5. Use an Apple Cider Vinegar mix:
    - 1-2 tbs. apple cider vinegar
    - 2 cups room temperature distilled water
    - A couple drops sage oil (optional)
Directions: After conditioning, pour the mix over your hair. Use as the final rinse. Double and triple the mix as needed. This mix will not only clarify your hair, it helps with dandruff, and soften and detangle the hair. Also your natural sheen will return after using it.

    Hope this helps.

    NOTE: *poo short for shampoo

When I go to bed I braid my hair. And it doesn't get that oily or tangly or anything. So, I only wash my hair once a week. :) yup, yup.
