I think a hippie is basically a person who wants peace and love in the world...if everybody was a hippie the world would be a much better place.
It's kind of hard to define, as people have basically stated. However, I usually think that a hippie is a person who appreciates things (nature, people, music, art, etc.). I don't think that drugs or clothes or politics really have a lot to do with 'being' a hippie - it's just kind of a way of thinking.
Nah; I don't like drugs.. never did it, probably never will.. I hate the thought of losing control of myself. It scares me. I don't like drinking either (and don't like the taste of alcohol). And still I can say I'm a hippie right?
Alotta cats call me a hippie, but im really just me. Hippy is the establishments way of heaping every individual into a subcategory, just doing secretarial buissness to the people.
you can't, people have tried. but if you define hippie, its ironic. because one of the more prominent characteristics of hippies is no labeling or stereotyping. and if you say a hippie is ______, you're stereotyping and generalizing. a hippie can be anyone, even if they dont wear bellbottoms and peace signs. its more like a state of mind and lifestyle, rather than a type of person. now, a gangster or rocker can be defined, but even then, not entirely. because everyone is just different.
...are post war baby boomers who got tuned in, turned on and dropped out when the economy in the 60s allowed them to pursue idealistic notions of freedom and love. Some were radicalised by the events in Vietnam, the human rights movements and the reactionary forces of big capital and government in Washington. Most got back on the capitalist bandwaggon and have or are about to cash in their pensions.
