because frogs probably don't even realize that they're gonna die someday, one day they just do.

to add to that approach, I would add a healthy diet and exercise. You might as well try to live as long as possible.

For sure. [IMG] And... I would add a health-tempered dose of hedonism.

Constantly thinking about death is a good thing. It helps you understand the impermanence of things. It also injects vitality and energy in you in the long run through greater evolution of consciousness.

There is a saying in the Sikh religion, " Bring the twenty-seven elements of the body under your control, and throughout the three stages of life, remember death. "

I'm an atheist and I don't believe in any sort of afterlife either. Death is an inevitability, and all you can hope to do while you're alive is smile as often as possible, as well as help others to smile whenever you get the opportunity to do so. In my opinion, smiling is all that matters in life, and you should do whatever makes you happy, as long as you're not hurting anyone.

i'm not afraid of death, in the least. That doesn't mean I WANT to die, but I'm not afraid. Afterall, we all begin dying as soon as we're born. Every breath after that, you're one breath closer to death. The actual process of dying might be pretty shitty, depending on how you die, but it's all over after that and you won't even know it.

I think having children might be a good idea, too.

If that's what makes a person happy, then that's what they should do. Afterall, it's one of the many things that make people smile, along with donating to charities, using drugs(not physically addictive drugs, but MAYBE psychologically/emotionally/therapeutically addictive, and that includes coffee or whatever), visual arts, listening to and/or playing music video games, movies, having pets, being with family, etc.. We all have different things that make us happy, and all you can do is do those things and bring and smile to your face and/or the faces of other people.

Anyway, more on the OP..........death is nothing to be feared, because you won't even know you're dead. Basically, enjoy the time you have, however you go about doing that.

I deal with it by talking to my grandkids about the subject of death whenever they bring it up. I'd like them to not suffer too much sadness when someone close to them passes.

The other way I deal with it is by trying to make sure I'm not leaving behind a bunch of old junk for my kids to sort through when I'm gone.

    And why is that exactly?

Being a good parent requires a lot of selfless dedication, hard work, and patience. Pretty much the opposite of my lifestyle at home.

I never feared death until I had a child. Now I have an obsessive fear of it - which made me realize, I dont fear death, I just fear what ill be leaving behind.

Whenever you hear more bad news about the direction the world is going in, I'm sure you worry about how bad things might get before your kids are old enough to die of old age. I like not needing to care about that. I may be wrong, but I'm thinking the wheels probably aren't going to totally come off in my lifetime. Next generation, all bets are off.

What bad directions are the world going in? Feel free to be as specific as possible. I have time to read a whole page about what you think on that topic.

And also, don't you think little kids are cute, though?

yes absolutely, its a very scary thought to think what the world will be like when my child is an adult.

then again, my mom once told me when she was pregnant with my older brother she had the same fears. He was born in 1972 when boys were still being shipped off to Vietnam to die by the thousands. Maybe every generation fears shit will finally hit the fan by the next generation.

Or maybe we should make a subsistence farming community and "go back in time."

You guys are hippies right? That should be right up your alley!

Try to be more alive. It's kind of like how I deal with the fact that the sun will rise. Try to get more sleep.

I just try and do the things that make me happy, that make my partner happy. The things I want to do, the things my partner wants to do in life, so that when we are on our death beds, we will not be like "I wish I'd have done that", i don't want any wishes, I want it done.

What would you like to do if money were no object? If you would say that getting money is the most important, you will spend your life doing things you don't like doing in order to go on living. That is to go on doing things you don't like doing. Which is stupid. Better to have a short at life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way
