Whether historical person or myth, Jesus isn't going away...he'll be here long after we're all worm food. You have to decide for yourself whether the religion based on him is all smoke, not smoke at all, or part smoke and part not, then move on to your next step. Fedup, in a friendly way, I'd say you're out of ammo for the time being. You ought to sit back, read some, and broaden your horizons...you asked about Vedanta and mentioned you were interested in Buddhism and Wicca...read up on these and do some comparison with Christianity. I'm sure that would lead to some interesting new directions in your posts.
Can't keep you down, Fedup. 75% of the Christians on this board would not consider me a Christian. If a Christian, I'm a very liberal one. Peace to you as well.
As I said earlier, I base most of my stated opinions here on general inference. If I were to write a paragraph describing where I'm coming from spiritually and philosophically, along with a poll, I think the 75% would be close.
Do you believe in NASA when they tell you man has stepped on the moon?. Christ tells you to believe in him because he is the son of God but you can more believe NASA when it tells you man put his foot on the moon?.
The problem i have is Jesus is not a jewish name STANLEY OR COHEN IS. Maybe jesus was really a Greek philosopher who wonder in Israel at the time . and since Greeks dont circumcise they hid jesus body so no 1 would see the penis. well my theory any how.
Was that a joke? Plenty of people have said they were the son of god. Absent proof, there's no reason to believe them except for hope. Nasa had video cameras.
FedupAmerican, when people give you evidence of something you dont believe it, but when you research your crazy ideas you seem to believe those, so what, does only what FedUpAmerican believe is true?
This has to be one of the most brain dead arguments I've ever heard for the existence of jesus. Outside the bible which was not written during his alleged lifetime, there isn't a single scrap of historical evidence for jesus. The moon landings, and other NASA missions are extremely well documented, filmed, and witnessesd by millions, including the soviet govt, who I'm sure would have been very eager to help uncle sam falsify the thing.
Humans have waited 2000+ for some god to show up = so far nothing matter of fact im willing to invite the Devil a well since no 1 have seen him in the last 20.000 years either.
I was five when I wondered what the fuss was about when we had to watch a blurry b&w clip of somebody's boot stepping off a ladder. It was years later that I figured out what I had seen that day. Still, I also saw OJ Simpson in Capricorn One. It was just as real looking to me. I don't buy the 'moon landing was faked' theories. There are too many things that I would have expected to see in the news if it were at all in question. Like astronomers who would have noticed the apollo vehicle's different trajectory, and its failure to go to the moon. Russia, at least, would have pointed out any anomalies, I'd think. No credible evidence has been offered to support that it was a hoax. Maybe it was, but if so, no one has yet proven that. As for Jesus, I may not be convinced that he was a real person, but I don't find it funny that many are. It is funnier to me to see how certain both sides are of their position. This I can state with some confidence, that as sure as you are that you are correct, you may be wrong. Okay, thats not that funny either.
Our calender is seperated by the Winter Solstice...which his "birthday" is just a carbon copy of....SOOO with that said, the nice attribution to your savior is nothing more than German pagan rites....Even our days are named after German deities.... As to influence, living or dead, i would say that the first Roman Emperor to pull this shit out of his ass had the most influence...not the savior of his fantasy...
Two things really ! Why didnt you pick on Bertrand Russels conclusions rather than his opening arguments? Because his conclusions are more difficult to refute arent they - the man was after all perhaps the greatest British philosopher and logics expert of the 20th century. Secondly you accuse him of not being a historian - would that be the kind of historian that rewrites history to say that the nazis never murdered jews, or the kind of historian that gleefully neglects to tell people about the murder of scientists, journalists and servicemen/women, by their own government - thankfully he was a philosopher and scientist - otherwise he may have just been another con-artist like the pope or that moron at canterbury cathedral. Perhaps if cristians offered any decent logic or science in arguments like this it wouldnt mean they ended up looking like idiots from the 17th century which I suppose is a lot better than looking like those halfwits that prop up the 16th century classical BS of Islam
I can no longer prove the existance of Christ as a historical figure than Christians can disprove the existance of Cernunnos as a god. And I dont hate Christians, I just happen to think that most of them are a little misguided, and therefore fodder for ridicule. And no matter how they deny it the bible admits that at one time there WERE other gods who were worshipped. It just chose to call them "false" and promised eternal damnation for believeing in them. So if believers of Christ would leave me alone I would happily pay them the same respect. But I don't see that happening.
