Just write a line or two down now and then..even when you don't feel like writing. Most lyrics are quite cheesy without music. The thing that really matter is how the whole thing sounds together.
write when the feeling is intense forget everyone else, just do what you do. Be who you are, Don't win or lose
I don't know how to help you here bro...I suppose I could just tell you what I do? Maybe that'll help...? Usually I just sing when myself or someone else is playing and say whatever is on my mind at the time. Sing from your heart and soul and it's very easy to "improv" if you will. Realize that the music and your lyrics are unifying into one and are being created right then and there, then just put everything you are in to it. The more relaxed you are helps, and having a very inquisitive/thoughtful mind(set) doesn't hurt either. I've only written down one song, everything else I just inject into the music at the time it is being made so as to join the two even more. That's how I wrote that song too though, I just played various chords and finger picked long enough to the point that I could say what the music meant to me through lyrics.
sometimes I find it easier to write lyrics and add music later... I love coming up with tunes in my head.. but I like writing from my heart even more... when the two click.. thats when you get a song
in the words of clapton: let it grow let it grow. let it blossom let it grow. take something you realley feel, and go with it. and it helps to write it first and then put it to music. just relax and it comes to you
You have to keep doing it all the time. My first lyrics were absolute shit, and I'm not kidding. Awful rhymes, lame content, just plain boring... about as bad as Blink 182 . Now I would say I'm an extremely good lyricist, and everyone who has read my lyrics is really impressed. You just have to keep your ears open for interesting ideas and interesting ways to say things. Also, some of my best lyrics have just come into my head when I'm trying to do something else. Make sure you get those down. Oh, and I forgot the most important thing: keep editing them. I've literally been editing this one song for a year as I think of better ways to express the meaning. Just rewrite them all the time in search of something more perfect.
do you have some way to record? put your instrumental stuff down and then hit record and sing. my best stuff came out in one take. and if you don't like it just do it again. I don't think there's any right way or wrong way... or write way as the case may be. give it time. if you're not flowing on something put it down, come back to it. if your music still comes pouring out maybe you can just get a bunch of that. who knows maybe a bit down the road your music will slow down and lyrics will begin to flow more. maybe you're waiting on experience to temper your pen. enjoy it
actually, ive written poems and thought they would be good as songs if i made the poem the chorus or something. is that odd?
I've got the other problem. I find I can write lyrics all day long , but I've never developed any musical abilities to go with it. http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=322311&page=3 This was sthg I wrote as a joke about a rapper and a rowing boat. The other stuff is muchbetter ( fortunately! : )) Whats the best way about going about getting bands /artists to use my lyrics? (doesnthave to be rap , I mean anything) Many thanks all.
How much experience, in any field, have you gained in the 16 years you've inhabited planet Earth? Lyrics come from the heart; metaphorically speaking, of course. Events in your life that have stuck out in memory, for better or for poorer, for what they were worth are a good place to start searching for lyrics. I tend to write within a coded box. Give people the clues to what I'm talking about while at the same time letting them take from songs what they can; so the song is not self explanatory (even though my message is there) and can be interpreted in different ways by different people. And to me, that's one thing that makes writing music worthwhile.
