I'm very interested in other people's opinions on the matter, mostly because when it comes to my sister, I feel that sometimes my best judgement may be clouded with anger. So with that said, here's a little back story.

My sister is what I would like to call an all around bad person. I won't get into all the details, as I am sure quite a few of you are familiar with the type. She is 30. She has had her two kids taken away from her. She's a liar and a thief. She's desperate and stupid. She doesn't work. I could go on, but by now I am sure you get the jist of things.

I don't really have much of a relationship with her. The only relationship I maintain is for my mother's sake, and I question whether or not I should even do this or not.

Anyways, two years ago my husband, my six week old daughter, and myself flew to my hometown in MN, so my family could meet my baby. My cousin threw us a small baby shower, in which my old high school teacher attended. My high school was a very small school, less than 30 students total. My teacher is a really great person. Honestly, she's probably one of the single most amazing people I know. About 10 months prior to my baby shower, she lost her 18 month old son in an accident. She seemed to be still really struggling with her loss, as I can only imagine.

    Moving forward....

A couple days after the baby shower, my husband and I went to meet up with my cousin and her husband for a couple drinks. We met up in the nearest large town about a half hour away. I had offered to pay my sister to come and pick us up. She happily obliged. Looking back, I can't believe I ever thought to ask her. It was really stupid of me.

    Anyways....

She picked us up, but she had some weird guy with her. On the ride home, this guy started saying some terrible things about my hs teacher. They were really horrible. I instantly froze. I didn't know what to say to this character. My husband waited until the car was stopped and we were home before he had words for this guy. I only wish I had defended my teacher. I don't give praise out lightly, but I cannot say enough good about this person and her family.

My sister ended up defending this loser in a pathetic way.

Fast forward to present time. My teacher posts on her fb thanking both myself and my sister for defending her character after finding out somebody was saying bad things about her.

What the hell do I say in response to this? I am almost certain my sister told her about this evening, but obviously adding lies to make herself look like a good person. I mean, I didn't even say anything in her defense. I sat there stunned and quiet.

It's just another unnecessary lie my sister has spun, and I don't know what to say to either my sister or teacher.

So of you made it through this.novel, I would love an outsider's opinion.

I think you should flat out say your sister did not defend her.

I would comment on her fb that I was sorry to hear that someone said bad things about her bc I thought a lot of her ;)

The classiest response would be to make a positive post about the teacher without making any reference to the controversy. Those who know the whole story will be able to figure out from the time and date stamps why you spoke up when you did, and you won't be making anyone else curious about investigating the controversy.

You could say "Thank you but I was so stunned that I didn't even know what to say. My husband really was the one who handled it, thankfully."

That acknowledges that you didn't actually say anything but neither did your sister.

Wasn't this one about her sister trashing an old teacher and then lying to the teacher about supporting her. I forget. I think it had something to do about facebook. That is all I got.

I thought it was about the sister having sex with someone. Although i could be thinking of a different thread.

I would be infuriated with that situation as well as it sounds like something that many people I know would do.

6 months ago I would have told you that you should call out her lie as publicly as possible, 3 months ago I would have told you to confront your sister about it, however, the ideal way to approach this would probably be somewhat of a combination of what Wonder_Woman and Karen J said. Acknowledge that there was indeed something said and express your appreciation to the teacher, your sister's thoughts on the matter don't seem to be based on her own free thinking, but on whatever the loudest person in the room says and I don't imagine such thoughts to hold much water with your teacher.

To the OP- Best way to respond? Be blunt about it- I'm not into drama about my friends.

I think you should ask your sister why she defended him,and tell her how you feel about it.
