It's not easy, and I'm not sure it's possible to completely shut off your mind. However practice will make it easier - and I wouldn't be surprised if you discovered you enjoy the state of mental peace.

And again, make sure that when thoughts do arise in your meditation, you take note of them and then let them go. This helps you develop an "observer" - one part of your mind that can observe the rest of your mind.
I've never heard of that method. But what the hell - try it, if you like, and see what happens.
It's so subtle at first that it's easy to dismiss it as illusion. When I first "heard" someone's telepathic words in my mind, I almost missed them. And it can vary. With much more practice and experience you'll find you can turn the volume up or down. However I must tell you, after you've achieved the listening skill and have been conversing with your spirit guides for weeks or months, you'll find your mind has become so well tuned to hearing them that they'll be able to grab your attention quite easily, even when you're not making any effort to listen. And sometimes they can be so loud in your mind it's almost as if someone is in the room talking to you.

But it may take some time to get to that point.

It's real, MysteriousNight. My spirit guide Emily, who is a living human being, worked with me as a friend to help me become convinced. One time I was exchanging e-mails with her. She was telling me that her dad had been a school teacher before he retired. Telepathically I asked her, "What subject did he teach?" Telepathically she told me, "History." That afternoon I saw her at break time, and to confirm my mental experience I asked her out loud, "So, what subject did your father teach?" And out loud, she told me, "History." Excited at my victory, I said, "That's what you told me this morning?" She replied, "Yeah!" with a look and a tone as if to say, "Duh!"

Another time I was talking out loud to her and another woman at break time. I made a joking remark about something, and then Emily said something that made it sound like she was pissed. Telepathically I said, "Are you trying to start a fight?" Immediately the other woman, who was standing next to me, walked back into the building. Emily looked at me, and then kind of slowly came over to lean against the wall next to me, and in a very low voice so that nobody else could hear, she said OUT LOUD, "No, we're not trying to start a fight." She didn't usually use the word "we" with me out loud, but she did this a lot telepathically, as if to imply that she was one of a host of people/spirits in my mind.

It's real. And if you really want to be a part of it, you can do it. Just keep doing what you're doing, and be patient. It took months for me. I'm thinking it might not take that long for you.

Hi, I'm very new to this, I was just wondering if it was at all possible to have a loved one who has passed to become your spirit guide.

I consider myself new to this, too. But I don't see why not. In Sonia Choquette's book, Diary of a Psychic, she talks about her dead relatives acting as spirit guides to her mother and later to her.

I'm sorry it hasn't been working out. But as you'll remember, my original vibe was telling me it was too soon for you, for whatever reason. It might be best to let it go for now, maybe come back to it again after a few years. I know it can be frustrating. As for me, I've had to wait years and years for some experiences. And there are some that are still apparently off-limits for me, which sometimes frustrates me to no end. Sometimes we just need to wait.

Hi Mysterious...are there any animals, birds, reptiles etc. that you feel a strong bond with? Dream about them often? Ever had an unusual experience with an animal? Maybe you should look into animal totems. There is a really good book out called "Animal Speak" by Ted Andrews. There's also a thread on the psychic forum called Medicine Cards. You could look at that.....

Some say we are all born with a guardian spirit in the form of an animal, bird reptile etc. You can lose your guardian spirit thru trauma, alcohol/drug abuse, neglect and so on, but there are ways to dance them back into your life. Some say you have one lifetime totem and many others that come and go in your lifetime depending on the life lessons you are learning. LOL, I'm definitely not an authority on the subject. Liquidlight is also knowledgeable on this. Pay attention to your dreams. Write them down. I run into my spirit guides often in dreams. There are ordinary dreams and extraordinary ones. I hope this helps a little.....

I got bitten by a frog when i was little ... about 3 yrs old i guess, well, thats the story anyway. We had a brick well in the garden and it had a corrugated asbestos roof on it. My eldest brother was on the roof eating all the biscuits so me and my twin sis' climbed up there to get a biscuit before he ate them all. The roof broke and me and sis' fell in ...about a five foot drop into the water and i cut my foot on something. I thought a frog had bitten me because we knew that frogs lived in water and we'd seen frogs in the garden... LOL.
But strangely telling this story reminds me of something which i was thinking about just an hour or so ago ... and this has to do with an idea that my current lifetime is a representation of all my lifetimes...my souls development.
Several years ago i had some 'spiritual counselling' sessions with a really good shamanic healer/teacher. One way he described me was being a bit like Obelix (Asterix and Obelix) ... he said that some people get a drop of magic potion .. so to speak, occasionally to help them on their path but i'm not allowed any because i 'fell into the cauldron' when i was a baby ... so i just have to make do.
I'm just kinda thinking out loud with it ... that well is the nearest thing to a cauldron i can think of when i was THAT young.

Anyway, in the words of Rolf Harris ... " Kids! They just love water don't they!" :D

Hey Mysterious Night.... your photo. Are you high? :p And i've gotta tell you something... the woman i fell in love with years ago, the one that messed me up and started all this soul searching. You look almost identical to her... at least in your pic anyway. Same everything! It's truly wyrd it is!
    So anyway, i know i'm a guy but you're hot!:D

Windy ... hey your story about being 'one of three' is fascinating and i'm seeing more and more of this kinda stuff. In a simplistic way i feel it's about 'three aspects of one' ... maiden, mother, crone for instance or the hindu 'trimurti',or father, son, holy ghost ect ... parts, layers and aspects and cycles of life anyway. Again, it's wyrd (my word of the day).
Oh i just thought ... wyrd = fate ... the three fates ... the triple goddess again.
    Argggghhh!!! Make it stop!!!

Haha....thanks, liquidlight. That's sweet, and no I'm not high in that picture. :)

Windy, I have had animals show up in my dreams before. I don't remember enough about them to know if it is consistently the same animal. Most of the time, when I dream, everything in my dream is distorted and sometimes larger than they are in real life. I've written some down and I've been trying to get back in the habit again. I feel like my dreams are important.

I've had a thing with 3's, too. And with the month of October. October seems to be my lot.

Ha, I don't want to wait, but.....I guess if that's how it is, then there's nothing I can do about it, right?

I wouldn't give up yet. They are always there. You just need to listen closer. Pay attention to little signs at first. I always ask for a sign. It usually comes in the form of 3s or feathers (or both). A funny story. I found out that I had some native in my family as I was doing my genealogy. I was really at odds with myself at the time and asked Spirit if that would be a good path for me to follow at this time. Finding out more of my native ancestors. Well that morning on the way to work I stopped at a yard sale and saw two clay sculptures by a famous native artist. One was a foot high head of a native warrior the other a smaller one I believe it had to do something with healing. Altogether there are three feathers on these statues. LOL I took that as being one big honkin' "YES".....I got them both for $10.00. I've also simply found a feather with 3 identical markings on it. Anyway, this is my own personal way and I am sure you will find something that works for you. Your relationship with Spirit, guides, teachers or masters is a personal thing....

Mysterious Night, I think you should ignore Windy's advice, and just give up.

    LOL Just kidding...

Actually I thought about this some more since I wrote you my previous notes, and I agree with Windy that you shouldn't give up yet. But yeah, as Windy says, it's a personal thing. I think you should ask your guides for contact, as I said before, but be open to different signs of that, as Windy says. And relax about the whole thing. Don't be in a huge hurry. Just keep your eyes, ears, and heart open.

I most often meet guides in my dreams and by and large i see them as parts of myself that exist at deeper levels, although they may be separate living non physical 'people' , perhaps friends i don't remember, perhaps connected in a group way, like family... but i just don't know. Yet.
Only very occasionally over the last 12 years have had noticable 'communication' in my waking state, in the form of words (loud thoughts or voices) or by touch which has happened a couple of times.
The reason i meet them most in dreams is because when we sleep we let go of the physical plane and go deep within ourselves ... literally going TO THEM. I'm sure they communicate with me in my waking state, but being in relative unconciousness alot of the time in recent years, i just don't hear them through all the noise.
And also a couple of times i have met people in my dreams who i consider the 'astral counterparts' of two people i have known in my waking life, but whether they are aware of it in their own waking state i do not know.

For instance. The shamanic cousellor, Richard whom i had sessions with several years ago. He's half Cherokee, and two nights before my first session with him i had a dream in which i met a Native American 'chief' who, in the dream helped me out. I spoke to Richard about this dream, yet he wasn't aware of it, but to my mind it was obviously him ... or rather his astral counterpart.
Actually recently i had a little 'in head' chat with Richard. (which was a first with him) It was the middle of the night so i asked him if he was asleep. ... He said yes he was.
Several years ago i attended a two day seminar given by the Native American spiritual teacher and authoress, Jamie Sams, and over the next month had two dreams involving her, ... as if she was 'visiting me'.
And also once ... a time when i consider i was at my highest vibration and most present, a good friend had a dream about me. I was showing her around a beautiful walled garden with art sculptures made from glass. ... so i consider that perhaps that was my own 'astral counterpart' being some kind of guide or teacher for her?

We are multi dimensional beings and between 'us at the source' and 'us in the physical' we exist on all levels, but sadly, most of the time we are only AWARE of this physical one.
... some food for thought :)

    Liquidlight, this is interesting stuff.

My mental friends frequently "talk" to me in my mind while they're physically asleep. Are they aware of it? I have to say, based on what my guide Emily showed me face-to-face and telepathically, that I think they are. However I think that's because of the extent of their development and awareness - these particular folks have reached the point where they are almost if not wholly integrated with their ummm "astral selves," as you term it - I use the term "Higher selves" in my mind when I think about it. It seems to me that this is where we're all headed eventually - integration with our astral or higher selves.

I'm reminded of an old song by Tears for Fears called "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"...I want to quote the first few lines:

    "Welcome to your life.
    There's no turning back.
    Even while we sleep,
    we will find you -
acting on your best behavior -
turn your back on Mother Nature -
everybody wants to rule the world."

I have one guide, Mia, who told me at the time I was close to her that she was in many other people's minds besides mine - simultaneously giving a part of herself to all of us, and living her life as a physical human being at the same time. And as a special object lesson to demonstrate this to me further, she arranged for me to meet, years later on this forum, a girl who was another one of her mental companions at the same time she was with me.

So yes, most of the time I at least, and apparently you also, are only aware of the physical level - but it seems to me we're gradually expanding our awareness to the extent that my mental friends have achieved, lifetime after lifetime.

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." But if you never take that first step, and then the next, and the next, and so on...you never get anywhere.

Yes, I think dreams are sooooo important.

I have had very epic dreams that have influenced my writing and such.

Well, what do you all think about this dream: there's a girl I know, that I care for and kind of like, and she was in a dream of mine one night. What I remember from it now was her and I walking through this darkness. She was completely bald in the dream and she isn't in real life. I think we were in a forest or a field and we were following some giant rat-like animal. I told her in the dream to always follow it - the animal- even when I'm not there. That's all I remember about that.

I had another one about her in which we were driving around in her car. She was driving and I was in the passenger seat. She was smoking - which she doesn't do in real life - and told me something like "I always aim for the heart and miss."

What do you all think about those? Any spiritual relevance or just my brain de-fragmenting itself?

    Fascinating, Mysterious Night.

Spiritual relevance? I say: Yes, absolutey. But there's much more to this than we can see. You're the one who has the pieces of this puzzle. The dreams are meant to speak to YOU. There are myriad pieces to this relationship that you're aware of and we are not. What are these dreams telling you? There is definitely a message to you. Ask the universe for understanding, and meditate on the answer. :)

And by the way, this is a good path to spiritual contact. ;) After all, these things all come from our spiritual selves, to bring us to greater awareness of the nuances we hide from ourselves in physical life...follow the breadcrumbs and see where they lead.
