Just wondering, I searched for any threads on this topic and didn't find any, soooooo...

I just thought I'd ask you ladies who have a business in sewing/arts etc, how did you guys get started, and how is it holding up? Is it enough to support you? I keep thinking it's something I'd really like to do at some point, just thought it'd be great to hear your thoughts on it, seeing as you have experience.

    Thanks!

    Love and light,
    megg.

I started off selling my clothing on ebay and in the parking lots of Phil & Friends and Ratdog shows like in 1999. From there I did a trade for a website. I made her a dress and she made me a pretty basic geocitites website :) After that I figured out how to make and maintain my own site. Throughout it all I have kept vending in parking lots and pay to vend at festivals around my area.

Sewing is not enough to support me. There are no benefits like 401K or insurance ;) So I do it on the side because I love sewing and creating. I am also the pokeyist stitcher. It takes me forever to finish a dress ;)

This I would also like to know as I am an aspiring artist. Haha, and I don't care about any benefits, I can take care of my own health just fine. I got one job and I hate it beyond words, I tell you, BEYOND WORDS!

AhahahHAhha. I just quit my job tonight, actually.... It was stressing me out like crazy, to the point where I was losing sleep and couldn't relax for the life of me, even on days off.. I was actually home sick today.

I totally forgot about Ebay. That's a great way to start. :D

craft shows, festivals, even flea markets. right now I'm making a whole bunch of necklaces for a woman who heard about me through word of mouth, you just need to get out there and hopefully get known.
