How did you meet your Partner ?

I thought a thread like this would make some interesting reading to both people in a relationship and singles alike .

My own story was a twist of fait type encounter and not the usual boy meets girl in a nightclub scenario.

Its was the 23rd March 1989 and quite a nice day for the area of UK around Manchester . I had been given a decent amount of cash to entertain my mates fiancé whilst he was on a course in London for the bank we worked for at the time . She was a bit of a party animal and hated staying in. As I was single at the time and not really looking for a partner as I was still "drying out" after my engagement had ended some 6 months previous. So for my mate I was the ideal person to entertain his SO whilst he was away.

I met up with her and my 2 normal drinking mates in our town centre with the intention of heading off to Manchester to the Hacienda Nightclub . The heavens then opened up and we sought cover . We had only one umbrella between us which was mine and she was wearing perhaps the smallest white cocktail dress you have ever seen. They were the in thing at the time . Bearing in mind that she was also well tanned after her holiday, her knickers and bra would be soon on show once the dress got wet. So we ruled out Manchester and decided to go to the local night club in our own town. Being a gentleman I wrapped her in my tailored sports jacket and we set off with my mates towards the local Night Club.

Once in there we soon settled down and got a round of drinks in. It was at this point I noticed this very attractive tall blonde with baby blue eyes watching me as I walked past with a tray of drinks. We were sat right at the other side of the dance floor and this blonde kept her eyes on me all the time . She established eye contact with me and we exchanged looks after which nothing happened for a while. Unknown to me at the time my wife to be was with another girl who was dating my female mates Ex ( very complicated ! ) and therefore she knew me. This girl then came over to me and asked if I was single , as it didn't look as though I was. I of course said Yes . She then literally dragged me over and dumped me next to my future Mrs.

We then of course got talking and after a while she asked me out .

That is how we met and Yes she did ask me out .

It was fait that we ever met as I had no intention of going to the local night club that night . In fact I never did go out on Thursdays as a rule , preferring Fridays and Saturdays .It was also coincidence that My Mrs knew a mutual friend that helped things along.

I will tell you about how I met fisherman, even though it's not a sure thing what's happening at the moment.
He's my partner as far as my heart is concerned, apparently.

end of August the first summer i lived here in my caravan i walked a mile and back to the garage to replace my empty gas bottle for the cooker. he drove past and saw me, and noticed because he has a thing about physically strong women.
beginning of September, my boss and co-workers were having an "end of season" celebration meal out in the village pub and i remember looking out of the window and seeing him smoking, and for some reason i remembered it, even though at the moment it happened i had no idea he would be significant or who he was.
my friend/coworker drove me home to the caravan, and then this vehicle pulls up right after she drives off, and he's calling out the darkness about "do i know i can get gas bottles delivered?"
i told him i enjoyed doing it on foot. he invited me back for a smoke. we chatted and smoked and then he brought me back to the caravan. i visited him a couple of times in the next month, then i was going back to my hometown for winter to work in the shop there, the job i had before i left. he said if i came back to Cornwall I could put my caravan at his place. I did. We spent three months spending more and more time together and I tried to figure out why I was acting like I fancied him, because I didn't think it could be that. decided it was. told him about it. gradually moved in with him over the next few months.
he confirmed much later, once we were together, that he had waited at the pub in order to follow me home. that was obvious though.

 

I was having a toxic on and off again thing with an ex. We were off but we had made plans so were thinking about being on again.
Our plans involved meeting up with some of my friends for a hike. My ex liked being in control, he didnt like being out of his element so because these were my friends he picked a fight to get out of going and I went alone.

And when i got there there was this cute guy I had seen around but never formally met. And he had found this baby goose that was dying, and he was taking care of it.
And if that isnt a panty dropper I dont know what is.

So I saw him a couple of times after that with the same mutual friends, I could tell he was interested and kept waiting for him to ask me out but he didnt. So I finally asked him. And the rest is history

it's very possible that i met my partner and completely fucked it up somehow.

 

So there I was, half a world away in a new country, sitting down in a new school room all on my lonesome. Block B, Room 4. Ready for roll-call on my first day, sitting next to this girl a few grades higher than me. Oh hello, what this around yur neck she asks. Oh just, I don't know, Thor's hammer. Hmm, you're not from around here are you, she asks. No, no I'm not. Well, you will then stay with me and meet my friends. Cool, I had some friends on my first day it's not so bad, they're just a few years older than me. But I felt cool too, so I hung out with these people after my classes I would rush to get back to the out of class meeting spot to see my friends.

That was how we met, in the classroom. I can thank Thor for that, that little hammer around my neck, shed never seen it before. Nobody was into the Norse. I was new and different. Then we was just close friends for a while.

We've never actually asked one another out the closest thing we ever got to was me asking her to marry me like 13 years later haha. Just after a while we were an item.

The hardest part was when she finished school and had to leave. I was stuck on my own, had to make friends my own age and in my own class. I did but it was hard without her. So she'd swing by with friends and pick me up to skip classes lol.

This thread is one one hand going to be full of sweet romantic stories and on the other, depressing reminders that there's no such thing as true love, it's all just bullshit and chance.

 

Chemistry class in high school. 23 years later I'm still glad he's my person.

 

Well by chance did I end up in the same country in the same city in the same school in the same classroom perhaps all by chance but I'll tell y'all something else. She definitely wasn't in the town I was in, nor the country, school or classroom where I was. So don't be sitting there thinking your bae gone be in the suburb you're living in... There's a whole world out there. Don't confine your ambition of love to the district you live in.
