What made you realize that you have a big one (or a small one)?

I measured myself in college (6.5 long, 5.75 girth), but didn't have anything to compare it to (pre-Internet). Two different college girlfriends mentioned how big I was, but I assumed they were just being nice. I thought I was just average. I had trouble penetrating my first real gf, but assumed that it was because she was a virgin. It took several attempts before it would fit. Once I could look up stats online, I saw that I am well above the 90th percentile in overall size especially due to thickness. It was quite the ego boost and explained the behavior of some past partners. I wish I had known earlier in life and it would have given me more sexual confidence.
