There are women with innate psychic powers or abilities they are born with or develop with spiritual practice. Such psychic powers have been mentioned in Patanjali's yoga sutras. Some can also develop it easily due to past life practices.

I have witnessed such psychic abilities in yogis and also women quite clearly.

It is possible that some women in Europe had such abilties. But due to paranoia and ignorance, such women were unfortunately regarded as devil-worshippers and so on, and burnt at the stake. However, this was actually inauspicious as such women were spiritually developed people, and this brought a lot of negativity in the process.

This started with the Catholic Church's persecution of a group known as The Cathars. The Church did indeed have a history of using "they worship Satan" as an excuse to eliminate any rival religion or group they felt threatened by (The Cathars, The Knights Templar and of course Wiccans).

Witches themselves do not believe in a devil or hell. Both just do not exist. We believe in another reality past physical death. It was probably started by Christian sects.

Wicca is a modern construct of the early 20th century, first written about by Gerald Gardner in 1954.
By assuming the mantle of Witchcraft, Wicca predictably attracted the ire of a sizeable plurality of the population, which also considers Gays, Lesbians, union organizers, little brown and black people, Democrats, women (especially those who wear pants), Jews, immigrants, foreigners...essentially, anyone who doesn't look, act and think just like them, to be demonic and Satanic, therefore the enemies of God; fully deserving of their hatred, lies, and slander.

Witchcraft is not Wicca. It's just that simple. People like to change things to fit their universe.
