What I mean by the survival strategy is in making many copies is your procreator is already fit, it is not being asked to adapt. If mutations occur it is because the same dice have been rolled many times, a statistical probability. Life taken as a whole becomes more complex by being prolific. If a particular mutation proves to be able to take advantage of a novel ecological niche or the same one in a novel way then it's strategy is still to make copies. Natural selection is only a survival strategy if you are consciously selecting.
