30something. We're supposed to get our one wimpy snow of the season Monday night. I dont see how people live in cold climates.
Still waiting for the real winter to start It's occasionally 2 degrees below freezing point but I want ice that holds my weight and enough snow to dig a tunnel.
No, we don't get that much snow here. But during my life we happily had lots of winters were we could skate on natural ice. And the people here are still quite crazy about that. Last few winters suck in that regard though and all the crazy people are focussing on the one week the ice will hold us (all at once ) Winters are usually like an extension of autumn here (especially the last few), and when it gets white or well frozen a lot of people get real happy because although we get tired of real cold temperatures just the same, we all seem to prefer it above this lame autumn weather. You know, it feels chilly outside either way, the trees are bald, the landscape is less green, so you better have some good use out of it (e.g. frost and snow!)
I think maybe that's why I hate winter so much, because its definitely just a continuation of autumn here too. I welcome the cooler temperatures at first because our summers are long, but after a few months of the same weather, just increasingly colder, I get tired of it. If I could actually experience winter activities like ice skating, skiing, etc I might like it more.
Yeps that's how its here too. We know how fun winter can be. I am also pretty sure I have a lack of vit D which never helps appreciating this season to the max
the city near me always plows and floods a long path on the lake for skating also they make rinks for hockey tournaments...couldnt find a real good aerial shot but this one gives a good idea of nice work...these are right on the lake
its warm for this time of year... which sucks... we need more snow... if we don't summers can be dangerous cause everything that holds water...ponds, creeks, rivers ect are low and forest fires are not cool... but im glad its not crazy cold..
It was 20 something when I posted above.... * Wind chill readings...wind chill values will be from 20 to 30 below zero overnight into Sunday morning. Wind chill values of 10 to 20 below will be likely Sunday afternoon to early evening. *Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 40 mph can be expected through mid evening before gradually decreasing through the overnight hours. The winds will create areas of blowing snow. The combination of this and the bitterly cold temperatures will result in slick spots on area roadways this evening.
-4F at the moment. They predict it will go down to -8 by six am and then increase to 5F for the daily high. Very windy, yesterday there was a lot of drifting. Wind chills 20 to 30 below zero.
16 degrees right now.....-11 in wind chill I hear we are going into -35 tonight or tomorrow, and I have to wonder how can rabbits, birds, deer, etc, fare in that kind of cold?
It's better to live just close enough to those places that you can visit whenever you want. I lived in the NC mountains for a few years, surrounded by fun winter activities. The novelty value wore off fast. Not worth the daily hassles of getting around and getting essential stuff done. The part I loved was the low humidity summers, with cool nights. This week, it's not expected to get above freezing here, and a big snow is predicted for Monday evening and Tuesday, not melting anytime soon. We haven't had a week like this in several years.
my i phone says it is 9 degrees here ande minus 9 in wind chill...but that is not on the bluff of the Hudson river, where it is always colder and windier,,,,where I am sure it was minus twenty out there in that wind. never felt anything like it before...Sullivan, the golden, got wobbly, for the first time....and i had to take pugs for little bits each each time. It is colder out there than I have ever felt it....before. Damn, how can creatures survive that hour after hour? How?
