In all honesty, I think Duncan approached his housemate post correctly. For one, he's being open and honest about his sexual preference so those who may find his choices "intimidating" or "weird" can be weeded out from the get-go. That's less hassle he has to deal with later. For another, he isn't looking for a live-in boyfriend - the man simply wants to open his home to another individual who may need reduced living expenses in exchange for the same for himself.
Nothing wrong with stating that preference. In fact, if one strongly have that preference for a housemate one would be stupid not to state it because it could possibly be perceived as predatory.
that's a consideration I didn't take into account. I guess if I hadn't ever been around a gay man before I would be timid about the differences in sexuality. what would rub me the wrong way is if @Duncan were posting for a relationship implied for the housemate. If it were a lure I think that would be predatory. EDIT: $600 is a heck of a deal here btw
