Paws? lol thats cute, I call them that too sometimes too out of habit. My dogs look at me like "bitch I got paws, I don't know what the hell they have"

More to the shoeing thing. I have a paint that has white hoofs, and because of that his feet are soft and he always has a quarter crack, he needs shoes, but, if you have a good farrier then they should know how to trim there feet.

You asked earlier how much it costs to keep a horse per month? Well I own my own hobby farm, and I have to bring in my own straw and hay, but all in all my farm costs about $80,000 a year to keep going. Thats with unexpected medical visits (which you often get with babies), feed (hay, which is costing almost .50$ more a bail each year ad for 3 horses I need 450 bails for a year), stray (bedding, also increasing in costs), Farrier (mines 90$ every 6-8 weeks) and other costs.

My passion is horses and I love to ride...unfortunately I do not own one but in the future, when I am earning more money I would love to!

Can anyone give me an estimate of how much it costs to annually, own a horse!

I dont want to buy one and then have to give it up...that would break my heart!

He is Rebel, he loves to run fast and go on trail rides, but his favorite thing in the whole world is food!

That's an idiotic comment. All of it. Western is casual riding? Ok, because a saddle has a horn on it means everybody just takes off on trail rides? Yeah f'ing right. Fancy clothes don't mean crap. Actually, I take that back. Proper riding clothes, which can be often time mistaken with fancy, prove that the rider is sincere with efforts in keeping up with safety for both rider and horse interest. And you should never pull back really hard on a horse's mouth. That's a good way to create a sore mouth, create briddling issues, cause a horse to rear, and so on and so forth. You need to learn to properly use your body with riding, your whole body. I don't believe in harsh bits, I believe in harsh hands. With that said, there are defintely some bits that I would never use, because I use bits as tools, and I feel some are useless. Same goes with any hackamore/bosal etc.

If a horse wouldn't stop for me by me putting all my weight in the middle of my saddle, not sitting backwards or forwards, I wouldn't ride the horse, and I would considered the horse poorly trained.

And western riders are prone to being harsh? wtf? BTW, bareback pads are DANGEROUS. I would never use one. As for bitless bridles, please refer to my previous comment. It aint the bit, it's the hands. I suggest all horse riders to seriously educate themselves on tack. It's often over looked. The simple O-ring snaffle has been my best friend, especially when starting horses. From there, there are so many choices that you customize to your horse's needs. Learn them.

^^ I agreee 100% It's all about the tools used. I find alot of western riders around here are painfully rough. But thats more along the line of them not being able to handle the horses that they are riding so they feel the need to ride using bits that are brutal. But, a good horsemen (or women) should be able to ride a horse using very gentle bits. I ride my baby, who's only about 5 (ok, not really a baby) with a rubber coated full cheek snaffle.

Have education and certification available to people who've passed horsemanship proficiency tests in : on-line, liberty, freestyle and finesse. The rider should be able to teach any horse to use the partnership side of his brain while being ridden, not act like a prey animal, not change gaits or direction, watch where he's going and put effort into what he's doing. And the person should be competent to deal with behavior problems in horses.

Anyone who thinks 'horsemanship certification' is any sort of substitute for an actual track record of problemsolving, starting, an dtraining horses is either nuts or selling something....

Domestication and breeding of any animal purely for human pleasure is inherently cruel.

"Horse whispering" aside, the breaking process for saddle horses (their natural spirit must be literally broken) is just fucking sick, IMHO.

There was a time when beasts of burden were perhaps necessary, but that time has passed...

Why a feeling person would want to make another animal subservient to their will simply for personal pleasure is quite beyond me...

Hello all i rarely post but horses are what im all about, all you horses are so beautiful so i thought i was only fair i showed you my mare 7s. She was a rescue too ( my first rescue :) ) She is an ex pacer and was bought as a broodmare, while in foal last year she ploughed through a fence and messed her offside front up pretty bad her owner had no idea as he was never down there to check or feed her. Anyways she was left untreated til the RSPCA got involved. She is still sound just has some minor scarring. When she dropped her foal as she was in with other horses its leg was apparently stood on and broken thus was put down. It was awful seeing her mourn. I have never seen anything so sad.

Any how long story kind short she now lives me, i recently started her under saddle she seems to really enjoy getting out into the bush and swimming in the river. When i finish my wagon im hoping 7s will be the horse to take me on an adventure :) Sorry got a bit epic.

you have very pretty horses.. Where im from some people cant take care of their horses cause of the economy, but I would think that if they opened their stables for others to lend hands, donate food and stuff there wouldnt be starving horses..

Its much the same here at the moment, although im not sure if some of these people can afford to feed them they just dont care. Where i agist there are always horses being neglected im sick of getting involved but if you turn a blind eye they die. Its getting better here there are alot of horse rescue agencies being set up. With the drought still going on alot of horses have needed new homes.

Thanks for being lovely about my horses Noah always used to get picked on by the other kids a pony club cause he is really lanky, they all rode cute little pony so Noah stuck out like a sore thumb! But we could jump higher than all of them so we won in the end :)
