I had a crazy professional panhandler woman scream and cuss me out. She stands at the same street corner every day for change for at least 2 years asking for change. She asked me one day, and I said, "Oh man, I was just about to ask you the same thing."
The thing is as I said you help one they tend to use it as a crutch. They tend to abuse the help. I personally believe it’s ok to help once in a while but too many times and they’ll have no intention of actually helping themselves.
I’ve always felt they could get help. There’s plenty of resources out there in my city to help them. Most don’t want help. It seemed to be a repetitive cycle with some of my managers. One got this couple a couple drinks or whatever but they came in damn near every day to get free stuff. That was my point. People start to use it as a crutch. That manager left and another manager would do the same thing. They’d always come in and say hey is Kyle here? One guy came in saying can I get $5 for the cab to get downtown? I’m a logical thinker and sorry $5 isn’t going to be enough to get downtown. I don’t see myself as cold just practical. I’ve personally helped people and it’s come back to bite me in the ass.
I don't see that as a bad thing. The answer is to actuly be willing to help. Public assistance is the enemy of taxes and hard working white Republicans. Regan talked about welfare queens and the idea has been around ever since. No one wants to help drug addicts. There is an idea in America that if someone needs help it's a lie or they are lazy. If we had better more "socialist" public assistance lots of these people would not be homeless. They would be unemployed in psychiatric care or their own house with a small goverment check while they seek work. We let them get homeless since they need to take care of themselves. Many Americans can't miss more than 2 paychecks before there are serious financial problems. Many of the same people also look down on the holmess for not finding a way to make money.
I've known several people who had college degrees and had become homeless. They sought help, they sought work, and the process took several months. They eventually found work and housing. They were not lazy or drug addicts or mentally ill. They just became homeless because their employer went bankrupt, just like Trump went bankrupt so many times.
I don't like to hang-out in homeless tramp camps at night unless there's music going on . The Big Rock Candy Mountain is a fun old song . As for our homeless , shoeless Jesus people in (dirty) white robes made from bed sheets ...when they want to share something , let them be love .
Ive been on both sides of the handful of coins and yes Ive spent the money on booze or dope.. or food. I don't mind handing out anything extra when I can afford it. not having a place to go at night gets old really quick and it becomes super stressful having to be on guard most of the time. Most people I met didn't get there by choice and a lot of people got stuck and just stayed. Its really a symptom of these fucked up systems we all support so who cares if that person you handed your spare change to spends it on booze? You probably made their day/night and they most likely aren't going to go out and cause trouble. Homeless folks shouldn't really be judged for how they spend money until there is an actual path out of poverty for everyone in it.
so what do you think of this? if a guy came through hataburger the other day and i took his order through the window & handed him his food/scoped the inside/backside of his truck he appeared to have some sort of cheap camping gear & shit do you think he parks neer hobo camps & attempts to "mingle?"
A car-tramp ? A very independent person . In some circumstances car-tramps will park together in the same area because the spot is practical , unbothered , and free . Oh , there coud be a hippy school bus parked there , too .
so you want someone to just hand you an apartment and job and hey?...we will throw in a slave wife for you too come on dude....your life is your problem....we all know there is a way out if you want it...people dont stay in a burger job...its a stepping stone to a better job...and a better job...and a better job...eventually you are the manager....life works
i took a girl home that i knew back in HS(but she was way fatter...) turns out she was close to mentally retarted… i thought we could spend our days watching youtube? ...a week later she would start a video & drag the time marker to like 15 seconds into the song... ...then go to the end of the song & drag the time marker 15 seconds back... ...then swing the mouse in a big circle over & over while kinda staring at me while i ignored her...NO WAY
I'm sure this comes from good intent, but I doubt it counts for this guy. He shouldn't have ditched this girl though: It really sounds like you two are not only on the same intellectual level but are made for eachother.
Before the welfare state , we had a local farm where the homeless were welcome to live and grow food . It was publicly owned and supervised , and now it's gone . It would take 2 million dollars just to buy the land for another farm of 160 acres . I don't know how much land it would take to grow food for a new green city of 10,000 hobos and their donkeys .
I read recently that in the reno area most homeless self solve within 14 days. So it would seem they were lower income and hit a rough spot, lost a job or new to town. The Chronically homeless lack the ability to get ahead. Addictions, physical or mental problems. Then there are those who are making their living being homeless as their scam. Many of those street corner people are holding a sign waiting for another soft hearted sucker. It takes a special kind of person to prey on peoples good intentions but they are out there. I never give out of the feeling of "I should" I give if I feel that person. the most helpful thing we can do is give to the organizations that feed and cloth them. I think the ones that take care of women and families are first on my giving list. They help those that need help.
Homeless people can be happy . I enjoy towns with happy hobos singing by the river . They still exist .
