I've been in a few crisis take downs at the mental hospital and they are scarey as hell. We were mandated to do as little harm as possible to the patient. We often got our ass's whipped but we brought the guys down without killing them. And why do the cops have to shoot to kill? A shot in the kneecap is real focusing and non lethal. They don't do that because of economics. Funerals are cheaper than surgeries and treatment. Human life is real cheap and getting more so. Real scarey world we're living in and I don't see any leader any where standing up for human dignity.

I teach my boys to be very careful around cops. I educate them to the fact that they can easily be killed because of the cops mood and whim. As much as I love my homestead and woods I think more and more that the time will come when the sanctity of life will cause me to leave this and vanish into the jungles somewhere.

because they're trained to instinctively shoot for body mass

1 crazy guy with knife approaches passersby and police kill him before he murders someone and people say "why did they have to kill him"

2 crazy guy with knife approaches passersby and police shoot him in the leg but he still manages to kill someone and people say "why the fuck didnt they shoot him in the chest"

I am aware of how adrenalin charged those situations are and I know about aiming for body mass. This situation reflects among other things, very poorly trained cops and some questionable personality types.

That issue aside I noticed how quickly the media has moved toward a whitewash for the cops. This may seem minor but I feel it is important. One of the articles I read refers to the other man who was killed. I won't use the words innocent bystander because that immediately implies the guilt of the intended target. The article stated that the other man "had wandered by on his way to work"...wandered by...."wandered by" as if he were foolishly in the area just on a whim. It is a subtle comment but it sounds different like this; a school teacher heading for his job was killed or a physician, or whatever. The paper writes him off as a bit player...not important, just dead. Very minor yet telling to me that the media will cast this storey in favor of the cops.

There are a lot of ways that words play in this tragedy. The first man to be killed was a "homeless man"...does not the life of a poor man count as much? How might the storey have been written if the daughter of a wealthy family been ripping up the garbage bags.

Many of the street people are mentally ill and can't get adequate treatment. At the mental hospital it was not uncommon for the parents of our patients to be quite well off yet their children had fallen victim to mental illness.

Maybe I'm rambling but much about this is disturbing and it seems to be happening more frequently with the cops being given a pass to carry on as usual. I find it all very troubling that human life has such little valuem

More people should ramble like you have...

The disregard for human life is growing. However, it isn't due to just the media. The media are as much a symptom of what is happening as they are a cause.

It is the people themselves, tell themselves that human life is worthless...

Look at the words being used in this very thread.

The elite do want goy people to be dumbed down enough to not understand the monetary system because if they were smart enough to understand it there would be a revolution.

Tom, folks like you and I are fortunate to live out and away from the cities where we don't don't face this everyday. I know it goes on but I don't find it in front of my home. I don't think I could cope with seeing this kind of madness on a daily basis.

Maybe I should turn my place into a haven for the world weary to come and count fireflys and listen to coyotes...or not
