Holy Freaking Crap

The first time I ever saw a cicada is burned into my memory. I was 17 and I was in the woods behind my uncle's house in Coventry, CT, and I followed the sound to a big oak tree and there was a cicada right at eye level. I thought it was the biggest housefly I had ever seen, and it had these enormous red eyes. They've come back twice since then, but I haven't seen one yet this go-round.
