Such a wonderful thread

 

mom made it to the us in 1919 (as an infant at her mother's breast)
there were of course cousins and second cousins who were still there and disappeard
20 years later, in the 1930s, when fascism popularly rose in parts of europe.

we should never be so complacent about hate today.
no nation nor its culture nor ideology are ever entirely imune.

but fascism can be opposed, and eventually it was defeated, that time.
the universe gives us no guarantees. i really think that is the lesson,
and when we see aggressive inconsiderateness being romantacized,
that is flirting with a repeat of disaster.

 

And rightly so.
