I got to tell you all, I am kind of an amateur coin enthusiast. Nothing too pricey. Actually, I love old currency that was in circulation. I love to think of who may have held that coin in their hand. You just never know. About 30 years ago, when I was still a young man I guess, I got my first Mercury Dime. This was in circulation during the Great Depression. And it was replaced by the Roosevelt Dime. Very appropriate, since FDR has just died, and he was very involved in the March of Dimes. Plus, you have to admit, it was the last coinage (lower at least) with Lady Liberty, so it was time to go.

Anyways, I love picking out coins out of my change. Just seems more thrilling that way, I guess. And as of late, I have been saving Wheat Stalk Pennies and Bicentennial Quarters. It is rare to find them, I know (esp. the Pennies). So I figure they must be worth something. But are they, really? And are they even worth the trouble of saving? One coin professional told me a couple of years ago, that when he finds Wheat Stalk Pennies in circulation, he just puts them back in circulation. Really, though?

Oh, and I got tell you all about the 1955 double die penny. It has the date stamped twice (hence the name). And it may still be in circulation. If you find it, don't let it go. It is worth a fortune. It is kind of ironic in a way. Because when pennies and other coins become to worn, the banks just take them out of circulation. So many 1955 double dies may have succumbed to this fate. But can you imagine a bank teller seeing this coin and letting it go? She/he may never know the amount of money that literally is just being destroyed before their eyes.

But back to my original question: Saving wheat stalks and bicentennials, yes or no?

I've got a wheat stalk penny dated 1919. I've had it for 20 years.

I don't see why not. You never know what may be worth something in 30-50 years. I used to collect bicentennials as a teen had all the states at 20. Never got so into it as to spend money personally but hey. I still keep 2 coins on me that have special meanin' for me. 1 is a gold dollar, the one with Sacagawea. The other is a 1971 half dollar. That's the extent of my coin collection however

yeah i have no idea if they're worth anything more than face value, but it's not like they take up a lot of space, and it's not like you're wasting a lot of money by not spending your pennies.

i collected unusual coins like that for a minute when i was a kid, but ultimately i got bored and forgot about it. i probably still have them in my room back at my parents' house.

I have some rare ones that I would keep even if worthless. A couple hundred years old and close to that on others. But then I have a roll of uncirculated Connecticut quarters and I think.. why am I saving this? I can get 2 beers for it

Yeah, wheat pennies, Mercury dimes, buffalo nickles, Franklin half dollars, anything silver, etc. don't find too many any more.
The silver is usually worth more than the coin.
Has some steel pennies, but lost them. They're worth a few bucks.

When my wife worked in a drugstore in town back in the 70's she got a lot as kids would rob their parents piggy banks.

I've been looking for a three legged buffalo nickel for years.

I got some steel pennies from 1941-43, as well as a silver nickel from that year.

I also bought a 3 cent coin that the government made for a short while. They’re a collectors item right now.

I just keep silver dimes and quarters, anything before 1965. I also have a bicentennial half-dollar but doubt it's worth anything. I've been thinking about getting a $500 and a $1,000 paper money but don't really want that much tied up in something that's not worth much more than the face value.

I used to collect coins when I was a kid.

Mercury head dimes, Buffalo nickels, the 1964 Kennedy half dollar, and Wheat stalk pennies.

I had a 1909 penny while always in search of the elusive 1909 S, and the 1909 S VDB

I sometimes get dimes and nickels in my change here in the UK. I keep them and a couple are from the '60s I think. It's amazing to think of all the pockets and lives coins have been through.

Do you really want to know how many people have come in contact with those coins and how their lives were affected?

Consider for a moment that anywhere from 80 percent to 90 percent of all U.S. Bills carry traces of Cocaine. I don't want to know where those bills have been.

Yes I do. By that logic we wouldn't watch American films or read American novels. I mean real stories about people. Maybe I have an interest in the speedier side of life.

Bicentenials are coins from 1976 they had different stamps than the year before or after.. completely different from the state coins which came years later.

I assume you meant the seedier side of life, and with that "to each his own"

well based on that, in someone's nose. it's not like people are sucking cocaine up their ass or anything. and it's also not like you jam the bill all the way up your nose either; it pretty much stays right at the nostril opening.

I have a hard time believing 90% of bank notes have any cocaine on them. I imagine it would be true for a small percentage of them.

Besides, don’t most people realize that bank notes are very unsanitary, being handled by so many people. Use a clean disposable straw

I wouldn't mind getting some morgan silver dollars. They're almost an ounce of pure silver. $23 bucks on ebay with free shipping for an 1892.

this is what people think until they have a line of cocaine in front of them, and then it becomes "do whatever it takes to get this up your nose."
