can't agree with everyone about everything, however highly i might think of them.
every life is worth living for the person living it. some might be in despite need of altering or broadening their perspective.
and the rest of us in similar need of their doing so.

there are circumstances under which i can imagine one's own life might be worth discarding lightly,
but for most of us, i think those would be extremely rare.

hiveminds are a work around for creatures too small individually to have a large mental capacity by themselves.
any community larger then a tiny village seems to me a disadvantage for creative sapients.
unless it adds to rather then diminishes the diversity of their experience.

on the other paw, interest groups are fun, at least until their focus becomes so popular that they get over run and diluted by the greater gestalt of mundaneness.
we may choose to be driven by no more then instinct, but sapeince gives us the opportunity to find far greater gratifications in diversity.
