I think you twisted the tiny bit that you were told... HIV can be dormant for a long time, last I knew 10 years was a decent estimate. That means that you can be carrying the virus but have no symptoms of AIDS, syndrome caused by the human immunodeficiency virus. So, yes, you may go in with no symptoms, get tested, and come up positive. Which is why you should be tested regularly if you are sexually active, unless you are monogamous with a partner whom you literally trust with your life. And, yes, in a way of phrasing it, there are different times when it can be detected. When I was first becoming aware of the need to be tested, the virus could not reliably be detected for 6 months after infection -- meaning it may show up but a negative does not guarantee that you are clean until 6 months after the test. Now, the official numbers I've heard are 3 months after the test, but as a previous poster mentioned, detection methods are improving so it can often be detected sooner. Please, educate yourself before reacting to misinterpretations of fractured pieces of information.
Oh, & I have been tested a couple of times, most recently about 3 months after my last previous partner and before hooking up with my current boyfriend. He was also tested recently. We are monogamous and I do trust him with my life.
I've had 2 HIV tests on purpose, both clean; im assuming they test it when i donate blood too, never got a call from them!
I got one once, actually it was a test for alot of things and It came back clean on all of them, but I haven't had a reason to get another.
never really thought about it...didnt really care i guess this is one of those things you should be really worried about but then wheres the fun..
Kozmic, condoms are only 97% effective. Those are excellent odds in your favour, but it's still not foolproof. Just be careful, okay?
73% of you that are sexually active have never had one... that alone is enough to make me limp for life...
