I watched this movie and maybe its just because I haven't read any of the books but the storyline seemed really incoherent, and there wasn't any real depth to it. Someone kinda give me a summary about what this was really all about. After the part that the super computer needed to create a living experience, that was earth and the ultimate computer to figure out the question. WHat the F**K happened after that, I thought it was retardedly incoherent almost stupid.

I kinda agree with Nimrod's Apprentice. Even the original books and radio series were a bit incoherent, it being British comedy and all, but the movie is far more incoherent and it does it without the elegance of the originals.

I agree with the above two. I've read the book too, but I think this movie is crap.

Maybe you need a British sense of humour to get it, as I love the book, old TV show and movie. Yes it's a bit jumpy, but I wouldnt' say it was incoherent.

Well tell me what exactly happened, in a short summary I mean I laughed at the humor. But is there a deep side to the story? Thats what Im looking for.

And when they were saying those 2 girls in the white that built the super computer and then went back to find out the answer is 42 and they needed to find the question then built earth. WHERE DID IT GO FROM THERE? THe 2 girls were mice and it was saying we test things on mice, but then was like its really mice owning the earth and they do tests on us. Did they mean the test on us, was really us operating on them. SO like we were just parts of the computer program/earth testing mice to teach them about themselves??? I didnt really get that whole scenario, I need a pro to explain it.

The Earth is nothing but a computer designed by Deep Thought, built by the Magrethea planet builders and paid for by those "children" (yes, they are the mice). Somehow, the computer Earth was supposed to return the answer to the question. Unfortunatly, it was destroyed shortly before the answer could be calculated. Yes, humans are nothing but a part of the computer (it's more complicated in the book, but let's not discuss this for now).

so i saw it after all. It was better than i thought but you know Douglas is spinning in his grave over it. And why would they leave out what the guide says on towels and leading to the non-existence of god? i wonder if they're gonna do the resturant at the end of the univese or not?

Still have to see it... the trailer looks promissing though :) I imagined Marvin a bit different but ah well.. they didn't ask me for my opinions when making the movie ;)

But.. Matty.. there is no mentioning of towels? How can that be possible? Hehe.. and they don't touch the God subject? Probably to daring for the American audience or something..

Oh.. and for those people who are bashing the HHG book (and/or movie)... just because your sense of humor is different (or dare I say, non-existent? :p) doesn't mean that something is 'incoherent' or crap..

But yeah.. British humor is an aqcuired taste.. since it's pretty close to Dutch humor I love stuff like Fawlty Towers, Monthy Python and ofcourse, the works of Douglas Adams (anyone read 'last chance to see'?)..

Can't wait to see the movie.. just curious what they came up with..

Marvin is really cute in this movie, but i didn't picture him like that myself, and there is mention of towels ( ford grabs 2 b4 they hich a ride) they just leave out what the guide says about them. Also there is mention about the 3rd most popular book in the universe that bashes god, but agian they don't tuch on what they guide says about god because its in the same part as the towels.

yes they did, and it was pretty damn funny too. I just wish they didn't leave out alot of the punch lines that helped make the book/radio program what it was.

I went in my dressing gown when i saw it last week.
I thought the film was very very good, and Douglas would have loved it.
I am a Hitchhiker freak so i know all the diologue for all the books anyway :p (ya gotta do something...) and i'm a bit of a purist.
there were some things that i had in my head that should have been different, but overall i think they've done it really well. :)
long live Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy!

I think the reason for this is b/c he never really sat down and worte the shit out all at one time. It was a radio program made up of 4 1/2 hour segments, and he wrote each segment right b4 the show, kind making it up as he went along. Also someone told me he was a crazy drunk, that might have something to do with it.
