When Zaphod played the vidcube with footage of Deep Thought's past, didn't the beginning and end of it have the "Magrathean Historic Archive" logo or something similar on it?

Also, it kind of makes sense that the Magratheans had a portal to Deep Thought, since it was the computer that was responsible for the programming of the Earth

And even if nobody knew whether or not Deep Thought still had one of the POV guns around, it was still one of the best leads for finding out where to look for one. I can't remember if anyone said that Deep Thought would certainly have one laying around, but if not then that's my guess :)

I downloaded all 12 radio episodes and all 6 TV episodes yesterday (via P2P, oh the joys of broadband) ... Even though the effects were bad (but not terrible) the acting and script more than made up for it.

I recommend that everyone who enjoyed the film has a recap on how good the original was.

They're repeating the series on BBC2, as well.

I tried to get my mum and sister to watch it, but they didn't get it :(

Did anyone catch the "Making Of" program that was just on?

I can't remember what it was or who said it, but there was something in there that made me lose all hope :(

Heh heh I remember watching it when it was repeated on BBC2 when I was about 13 in the late 80s. It was on on a Thursday night so I would always rush to school the next day to discuss it at length during double chemistry with the other loser in class:)

I like the way some of the characters are quite different in the film because to be honest I'm a little over-familiar with the original TV and radio versions. It was interesting to see a slightly different interpretation. I can see how it might well offend purists (*cough* geeks *cough*) though:p

I was never a purist though. Books and screen are two different media, and the idea that you can exactly translate one to the other is, of course, nonsense. I was looking forward to seeing what changes they'd crafted into the story. My problem wasn't so much the changes as the complete lack of coherent story.

I completly agree. The original TV series was ok but why bother making given that it was written for radio?Furthermore why bother remaking yet another TV series? There again what is the point of anything?

The original series was written in the 1970's an as such satirised life in the 1970's.These days it would have more appropriate to satirise such things as spammers and telemarketers.

Is it product placement or a send up of product placement? There again it could be a send up of the monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
