Saw a jokey group the other day dedicated to reviving casual sword wearing in public. Tickled me, particularly as i practice a bit of historical fencing. Is there any historical practice that you'd like to see revived?
real dancing, any era from classical ballroom dancing to 1920s flapper dances. As opposed to women just making their butts rub up and down against a guy's penis.
interesting, I can certainly see the appeal, as a terminally terrible dancer I count myself rather lucky that I missed out on the age of popular dances that require any sort of skill. It might be the reason I gravitated towards punk
There are still people who think that world peace is possible, i was really asking about stuff that has sort of died out.
i understand that years before my time, DJs were allowed to play decent music on the radio if they wanted to. that would be interesting to bring back. also, i would love to slap somebody with a glove and duel them.
the soverignty, languages and customs, of indiginous cultures everywhere. combined with the most advanced, well chosen, un-intrusive technologies. letting people live in small structures they build themselves, without requiring a licensing or permits, other then for where to build them, to do so. (there are noncommercial stations today that allow dj's to create their own individual programing. also community participatory programming committees. try kvmr.org. there are perhaps a handful or so of similar, scattered around. each dj gets a two hour or less time slot once a week. "decent music" is a matter of personal taste. the only way that's gonna happen is a diversity of things, different people like different ones of, but enough different ones, for there to be at least a couple of hours every week of each.) the big one for me, is PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. not just in cities, but serving and circulating within smaller communities between them.
why? the aggessiveness of the individual is the suicide, not just of nations, but of humanity as a species.
the last fluent speaker of a language dying off is as close as anything comes to anything ever completely dying out. i have never understood the attraction, that anyone would want a world not at peace.
If a leader wants to have a war, they should be like the kings of medieval times and be ready to lead their soldiers into battle from the front.
^ Although not entirely historically correct Braveheart paints a good picture of where the average king was in a medieval battle. When I think of kings in the 100th year war I think the english had a pretty good laugh when they captured king Jean II.
I believe Patton and MacArthur did that in WWI, MacArthur as a major leading infantry attacks and Patton as a lieutenant colonel riding into battle on the top of a tank.
He's the only French king who is buried in England if memory serves. The defenestration scene in Braveheart shows the attitude of those kings quite well. I only made my post tongue in cheek. I can't really picture a situation where the likes of Bush and Blair lead the charge.
Defenestration is a fantastic word. I would almost say the practice should be restored just because of there being a specific term for it :-D
