historical facts are the ones they don't teach you as a child in school. the ones they do are propaganda.
of course, even that statement can be twisted to serve ends i'd rather not intend it to.

later in life, it is usually possible to research something closer to what is more likely to have actually taken place.
politicians are often credited with what populations have already decided.
as likely for better or worse either of them.

the date and time of a speech, is more easily quantified, then the date and time a majority of people have made up their minds about something.
unfortunately the date and time of a speech, has very little to do with what an every day person that the same time, was eating for dinner.

I lived above the City of Refuge in 1972 in an old house up the road from the refuge in Kona coffee territory. There were no buildings there, only the stone fences and the Marai. I think that it's a tourist spot now. My understanding of the refuge was that no matter what infraction one had committed---if the "guilty "party could reach the refuge, even while being chased--and from any island---all was forgiven after a certain amount of time.

I also took my jeep down to where Captain Cook had landed and there was nothing there either except a wooden shack with old newspapers on the walls. My friend, my girl friend and I stripped off and went swimming in a small natural pond a few feet from the ocean.

Went to those places about 10 years ago…..still pretty cool. Lucky you to have lived there. Had I told my wife about your experience where Captain Cook landed she would wanted to skinny dip there too!

It was fantastic! I paid 50 bucks a month for an old house on the side of a hill in a defunct coffee plantation on 17 acres! There were hippies all over the jungle there and ---well --let's just say ---there were some good times to be had!!

This incredibly preserved 4,000 year old wagon made of just oakwood, unearthed in the Lchashen village near Lake Sevan, Armenia. It is among oldest wagons in the world.
