Like almost any other grouping of people you care to think of, hippies have changed since the beginning.

In ancient times there were people who lived in ways we might call hippyish, and in the Middle Ages too. Then of course Bohemianism arose in the 19th Century, and hippies as we know and love them appeared in the 1960s.

Hippies today are different again, and sometime in the future there will be people who'll recognisably be hippies but who will be very different from the hippies of today or of the 1960s & 70s.

What do you think the differences and similarities might be? How soon will certain changes take place? What issues will the world of the hippy revolve around? Feel free to extrapolate and ramble at length.

Did anyone else read the title "hippies in the future" as sung in Vamos a la Playa?

"Hippies in the future, oh ohohoh oh"

Teleportation ... the awareness and the skill is already advancing . By this , when the moment
of opportunity arrives , there will be a gathering of the people and the establishment of a natural
and beautiful homeland . It will have a Circle of Protection : uje : the human you are is what you
mean is what you say . Beyond confusion .

Yes . When you teleport your backpack and garden hoe go with . Then , too , another aspect of
teleportation is to be 2 places at once , but I hope the future will resolve this .

What do you think the differences and similarities might be?
    - they will fear anything offered by govs and fine institutions
    - they will seek to establish "memories" to fight back against the "borg" which has erased all the memory of this

How soon will certain changes take place?
    - soon as every drop of fat been sopped off the plate of people by the big biscuit. They're already being processed, just not the squishy part yet. By 2032 at the latest. Fun time has already begun, but I think kicks in to gear more this july.

What issues will the world of the hippy revolve around?
    - as natural of live birth as possible. Successful live birth.
    - infectious disease prevention

Feel free to extrapolate and ramble at length.
    - having learned the iron and deadly lessons of this era, "hippies" will be those who are opposed to the vanilla mindlessness that is being pushed now.

Seems to me that the 'hippie' culture has sort of devolved to be based almost solely around the use and development of cannibis. People have all started working on the legalization and recreational use of cannibis as a means to get together, or even more toxic, a means of tying friendship bonds. A lot of people imo seem to fail to realize that being a 'hippie' is a lifestyle. Just because you do drugs and wear tiedyes and tote a scruffy beard doesn't make you a hippie. It's about your frame of mind.

I'm sort of having a cultural identity crisis right now trying to figure out whether I'm a hippie, a hip-ster, or a counter-culturist. Perhaps, in a way, I'm all of the above? But when it really comes down to it, I don't care. Whatever I am I is. No one can change that or take that from me. And if people don't like it, please... allow me to show you the door and point you towards the road.

    :)

As for the future of hippie culture... who knows. The Grateful Dead are stopping touring this year, but there are plenty of tribute bands and side projects they're doing. The band and like music seems to be quite a staple in opening people's minds into self-realization and a more relaxed attitude towards the going ons in life, greeting your fellow man with a smile and a handshake, etc etc. The world, to me, seems bogged down with violence and it's difficult to have a peaceful movement with everything going the way it is, but who knows. Maybe things will turn around? Maybe society will take a much needed turn of regression and cancel out some of the noise it's been producing and we can all live a little more peacefully and worry-free. One can hope.

    Faith in the future.
    Without hope, what have we?

They(we)will be shown at museums in dioramas like is done with Sacajawea, etc. A head will move and a dumb looking hippy lookalike will say--"groovy, man" flashing a peace sign every 10 seconds and some others will be shown panhandling--"spare change, man." I mean really---everything gets distorted, dismissed and absorbed into this society or relegated to the dust bin of history if if it doesn't fit with the contemporary societal form.

Can you say- right on, man.

Sometimes I feel a bit hippie, sometimes I don't.I just hope we don't lose the power and channels for freedom of expression of a better agenda than the current ethos. But this is a long term battle and I am not optimistic.I hope those that are vaguely hippie don't become afraid to express their core values of a better more peaceful world, even if this just has a small influence on the general vibe. It's important to keep the good fight alive.

people are always reinventing the wheel and giving it a new name. there are activists now. i think media has given up on trying to discredit them the way they did us, by attempting to depict them as hedonists. for one thing, they're more all ages then we were. so instead, they try to avoid mentioning them, or doing so only in misleading ways. they did that to us too.

many of the same conditions and circumstances, that gave birth to the hippie movement in the furst place, have come around full circle and are once again with us right now.
and it wasn't a failure in its own time, and with any luck, it won't again be now. it will be and is, the grand children and great grand children, of those who were the hippies then,
who will be and are, on the front lines now. unlike our so many of our own parents then, i would urge, not giving them quite "so much resistance from behind.
think its time we stop! hay what's that sound, everybody look what's going down..."

psilocybin, teleportation and open space... theres no such thing as hippies today except for the wannabees who were born too late... I was actually a hippie in the early 70s when we/them were dissapearing into the norm... I never went to the norm but I cant be a hippie today cause we are extinct. I know the hippies from the 60s if they are still alive will argue with me in a psychedelic way but we/them were. I was the second generation of a fvckin hippie we were// I was the answer to my question... thanks world for the 60s and 70s may they never be repeated!
