[QU Hello: This is a letter I wrote to someone who was in the "end-times". I didn't need prophecy, because it never came true, and wasted all of those years and more (because I still deal with the consequences), when I could have been myself and a hippy. I was a follower of false teachings, unsound doctrine, and someone's interpretation. I lifted up the guy who set the date for the end as a Prophet, but turns out it was not true. Time and life can be greatly wasted following a path and opinion of another and on top of it they "use" the Bible to do it. The fact is is that it did not happen. It is a subtle evil to get into a group like that because who get all twisted up and time is lost and years are lost when after the predicted day doesn't come to pass. So, here is the letter I wrote. Thank you for your time. I read your website and article about the failed dates for the end of the world and I too was in a "religious cult" in the mid-70's and early 80's in Tucson, Arizona. They were living for a day for June 28, 1981. They were heavily into the "end-times" and setting dates and making predictions. They also carried big King James Bibles and could quote scripture and if you were uninformed of the Bible and weren't taught properly you thought they were really something and stood in awe of them. It was unsound doctrine and false teaching and they would love-bomb you and show you all kinds of friendliness in the name of the Lord. Very deceiving. My wife didn't believe it and left me in 1980. She is doing what she always wanted to and that is teach physically handi-capped children. Me???? It put me on a life long journey which I am still dealing with the consequences of such groups. These type cults are dangerous and very anti-government, especially when they believe that the "anti-christ" is coming from America. You can read more about this group in the Arizona Daily Star (June 1981) and I would say thank you if you could add this to your diary of dates. Thank you for reading this and for your time. No need to reply. Sincerely, Todd DeFrank P.S. I read the article and that is why I am writing. I am in total agreement that date setters are for real, but false. I agree that many of the dates have fallen through.
AHAHAHA! The World Ends Tomarrow And You May DIE!!! Praise Dobbs! http://www.subgenius.com/pam1/pamphlet_p1.html And you all say I'm crazy....
i think that all the hallmarks of a disaster/ catastrophic event is the normality of life as we coast into danger. i mean the passengers of the titanic had no idea that the people at the helm, the designers and the company were completely negligent. even after the ship had come unstuck, the band still played on. i feel that for the average person that they coast into danger without realising the folly of their situation. eventually they hit their own iceberg, sometimes people learn from the experience if they've been lucky enough to survive it, whilst others keep going down with the ship.
To be honest I'm not sure anybody who believes all this would be welcome in my commune. Well... to put it another way - I respect other peoples views, but like religion - I wouldn't want these people preaching and trying to "convert" others. It's okay to think what you want if you dont impose it on others, but I just think these people would forever be on about the end being nigh! I also think that communes actually built around this way of thinking would be a pretty strange and possibly dangerous one. For instance - if say, the world was going to end tomorrow - what harm in a bit of rape and pillage the night before eh! Then the morning after when you're still all there you've got to face up to what you've all done. Just some general thoughts and not necessarily and opinion.
Wow... Well I know not to go to the UK then huh? Me personally, I don't try to convert. My friends don't believe in any sort of end times crap and they're still friends with me. But if You know nothing of Peak Oil then it doesn't matter what I say you'll be blind sided anyway... As far as the rape and pillage aspect... What harm would it do to have morals?... I'm not really sure if I should be insulted by that comment... Eh to each his own. One Thought on the subject would be to accept those of ones community regardless of their belief structure or inadequacies. All the members of ones community are valuable and I wouldn't exclude anyone based on their religious beliefs or views of the future... But then again I don't support segregation either. All One can do is shake their head in disbelief sometimes. But that's just something to think about.
If you bothered to read fully what I posted you would find that's exactly what I said! The point I was trying to get across that in my experience people who have these "doomsday" views tend to preach them onto others. The fact that you have hijacked this thread doesn't really change my view on this, sorry! I should underline the fact that I don't specifically have a problem with you personally, or indeed your views.
"One Thought on the subject would be to accept those of ones community regardless of their belief structure or inadequacies." ok, I dont see it... where did you say the same thing as my quote? perhaps you could point this one out for me. as far as Hijacking the thread?... sorry thats the ADD, but as you can clearly read in previous pages I mentioned it once i noticed it and tried to get the topic back on track ^_^ Also, I'm sure youve no problem with me in particulare, the feeling is mutual, I just like conversation.
Here: Maybe I should have emphasised it more - in any event this is the first argument I have had about actually agreeing on something! peace
It's a little town south of Anchorage about 40 miles. Only about a thousand people live there, there's a ski resort in your back yard, summers offer awesome hiking, you can boat on the inlet near by called Turnagain Arm, and the town is full of hippies. The have this little festival called Garden Fair every year, where people set up little hippy booths selling stuff they've been making all year, the pot smell gets nice and think and most of the people are super chill. I'm sure you could find a job and a little place to shack up right away when you got there. It's beatiful country, I'll deffinately be back someday. Peace Dude,
Hippy -- you might want to try Eugene Oregon. WHile you will need a few bucks to get a room and food for at least 3 or 4 nights, there is a store there called Sundance...they have a board outside where people are constantly looking for individuals to move in and take care of elders, take care of their landscaping, whatever in exchange for food and rent. Others offer money for simple things like learning to drive or attending seminars when they need an extra person. And these ads are not in papers or online -- only on the boards. My husband and I lived there for a couple months while traveling through and we built a greenhouse for a family in exchange for food and rent. It was really cool. Just an idea for you.
Based on my experiences traveling and seeking out America's kind communities, I would say in the U.S. lower 48 states, check out the northwest. There's a lot of really cool unheard of small towns on the Oregon coast, I lived the Seaside Oregon Hostel. Seaside is a small tourist town, it's got great beaches, the longest sand beach in Oregon I think. It's not all hippies there, but there's a high percentage and a lot of interesting people make up the tourist population. All down the Oregon coast you can find cool small towns. Northern California on the coast, it's hit and miss, some are really sweet hippy towns and some are militant redneck towns, more so inland and in the hills. Arcata is very hippy, very. I loved it so much. I would love to live there one day. Nevada City California is where Utah Phillips lives, I've been there. It's a book town, since I'm a writer, it drew me in. Even up in Washington, I think Port Townsend up on the Olympic Pen. is a hippy town, and I know that Tonasket out east hosts the barter fair. You can find some hippy towns in MOntana, mostly in the scenic western portions of the state. I suggest seeking out hostels in the northwestern U.S. to find hippy communities
try the "Farm" in Tenessee. (I know not Canada) or UpState New York- I forgot that's one's name. google "communes" Acorn.org is another one. Good Luck I wish I could that too.
upstate new york north of utica, north of lake placid is the adronack mountains, the most beatiful country u will see in new york, i know of some other traveling kids, i met in ann arobor this past summer was talking bout getting land out there and turning into a farm/comune, where we grow EVERYTHING organicly. I had the chance to check out this part of new york after i met thease traveling kids, and i think it would be great place to set up.
