What music was associated with the San Francisco hippie scene? | Music in SF® | The authority on the San Francisco Music Scene
Steve Miller Band and CCR too. It was a great creative atmosphere. Musicians were trying out all kinds of shit. Record execs were walking the streets signing bands left and right. The scene was wild! Unfortunately the counterculture started to give way to the beancounters in the mid '70s, and a band's worth was measured more in potential sales than talent. Which makes sense if you're running a corporation obliged to shareholders rather than consumers. But I digress.
I was lucky enough to live in Santa Cruz in those days and saw many of the bands listed herein. Joplin made the hair on my neck stand up--damn she was good!
