I agree too. Either make your own shit or buy the expensive things if you know that it will last you your whole life. I hate when people buy a 20$ pair of jeans and then bitch when they break and they have to buy a new pair every month. God damn just buy some quality shit so you don't have to keep consuming!

    No. Just no.

WTF, just wear what fucking ever. Sure, I love hippie clothes, but I don't really wear them. If you want real hippies clothes, buy fabric, or old used clothing, and wear them/make them. but you may be called some poser if you wore "gangsta" clothing... but yeah. wear what you'd like.

I agree totally that being hippy is more than the darned clothes! I mean I have had kids livin' off their rich parents guilt trip me 'cause I wouldn't buy their overpriced hemp clothes. So then their friends told me I wasn't a 'real' hippy. sigh..... silly kids...
I wear what I like. Some of my coolest hell most of my coolest stuff is gifts, or thrift shop stuff or stuff I made. But still that isn't the point either. But being creative and thinking really thinking about what you wear and why is more to the point of hippiness. Follow your heart. YOu know, I think if it was considered 'right' and 'normal' to wear tie dye and bell bottoms the hippies would be wearing suits;-)
    hugs to all......

    Hello Thrift Sweater!
I had a few more ideas for you:) Are you school age? If so, think
of school as a hippy academy. Hippies are very creative-so to find
your personal creative groove try creative writing classes, art, music, woodshop and home-ec. In home ec. you can also learn to make your own clothes. Learn the basics and then let your creativity run wild. Try band and learn an instrument and choir you can learn to sing. Both are great hippy skills. Take literature and read Gandhi, Kerouac and Therou(for starters start reading and never stop-oh and Ginsburg and and..) Try history to learn about how people who thought differently changed the world. Take a language class so you can commune with people who are from other places whether you get to hike around or not.
But you probably will. Do they have a life health type class to teach you sports that aren't horrible? LEarn yoga, dance, tai chi and hiking. LEarn first aid so you can help brothers and sisters in need. Take machine shop so when your hippie mobile or someone else's breaks down(and they always do eventually) you can do something about it.
Also if you are worried too much about clothes try swapping with other hippies. Learn a craft in that area like macrame, sewing or knitting or something and swap with someone else who picked another cool skill.
Learning these things is a great way to meet nice new people too.
And remember, this is VERY important, hippy isn't your clothes but your heart and your head and how you live and how you treat others.
    hugs

What the hell is up with certain people labeling themselves and then trying to fit into that label....WOW. Go ahead and live a stereotypical life. It provides me with lulz.

    Hey.

Dude, seriously, forget about those who look down on you because you don't dress how they think you should.

Yeah, sure, I dress hippie, but that's because I love the style of clothing, it is comfortable and I am happy for my hippieness to be shown to others. I don't judge hippies who wear regular clothing. It's about what you believe, not how you look.

Just get out there and be yourself.

i think its hard to find hippy clothes at malls, etc.
i find all my hippy clothes at vintage goodwill, salvation army, etc. Nobody else will have the same thing, I try things on, and if they look good i get it.
and who knows.. it might of been from the 60s!!

My friend asked me to go shopping with her to get some hippie clothes. I told her I'm too poor to afford hippie clothes - it's a huge oxymoron in my mind.

Clothes don't make a hippie. The hippie makes the clothes.

^ agreed. i dont dress specifically "hippie". i buy whats affordable and looks good to me. label/popularity isnt something i go by when i shop. im not very picky (which is a rare thing for a woman to say, most people tell me). i like gauzy skirts and jeans, regular 5 dollar t shirts or peasant-ish tops. i get strange looks sometimes but hey who cares? i dont dress that out there, but girls these days dont wear skirts as much (im not including mini/booty-skirts/shorts) so yeah. ive been dressing this way since i was 10 so im not about to change for anyone.

When I was younger I wore so much bright rainbowy clothes that I practically dissappeared in them.. I tried to hide kinda, but now, a while ago I bought tons of "normal"clothes and guess what, when I put something on at random, the way I like it I still look kinda like a hippie. It just happens, or it does not, biut its not about the clothes. I never get shouted at on the streets anymore, not because I dont overdo it anymore, but because I feel comfortable with who I am, and thats what people see.
so called normal people are not the enemy you know, theyre people with feelings too, and everyone has been nice to me lately even though I dont look like them.

well honestly, i steal all my clothes, or they are given to me. I don't remember the last time i bought anything. I'll usually grab cool vibrant and colorful shirts, or try on a pair of jeans and put my old ones over them and walk out. But lately i've been getting white t shirts and stealing tie dye kits and just making a ton of shirts! Stick it to the man, you know?
