While my most favorite tripping music is most definitely Pink Floyd or Grateful Dead, I found that if you listen to the right type of hip hop in the right setting while tripping, It can work wonders on your mind. The way the lyrics flow over the instrumental leaves me in awe everytime. My favorite Hip hop track to listen to while tripping is Aquemini By Outkast. If you aren't familiar with Outkasts classic stuff you gotta check It out. Heres a link to the song Aquemini. I highly recommend you give it a listen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pjHlizcXI8 Anyways i was just wondering if anybody else has a favorite Hip Hop group/Artist to listen to while tripping. Thanks for reading eace:
That would be an intersting tripping song but I'm personly not a hip hop fan. But whatever stimulates your mind.
Hip hop is awesome when tripping. If I'm alone in my room I'll usually play something with a little more depth to concentrate on like Pink Floyd, MGMT, etc. But if I'm outside going for a walk I'll immediately go for some Dre, Asap or Wu-Tang. It always gives me such a boost of confidence I end up walking around with my head up high thinking I'm gangsta as shit.
I feel like whatever music, if its epic sounding, it gonna be ten times more epic on acid. Not just like it sounds good, but it brings about a profound multidimensional quality to it. A good song at the beginning of a trip can be you soundtrack to your entire trip. I was listening to some Lil' Debbie - 2cups on cid the other day, and even though the lyrics aren't that great, the beat got stuck in my head the whole time. Its and upbeat happy song, and it kept playing in my head making me feel warm and peaceful like I was on the beach. Also had lil wayne, "set this stage on fire", running through my head, just the sounds being so epic in my head, everything feeling and emotional exploding with the sounds in my head! I love rapping on acid too! I always have such inspiration flowing through me, the words just pour out. I love to rap over the melodies in my head. Ill just listen to a couple really good songs in the beginning of the trip, and just ride them out all night. Really one to record some of them some day. But yea hip hop defiantly has a certain profoundness to it.
Well, the values of hip hop are strongly at odds with an enlightened mind. Hip hop seems to promote materialism and chauvinism above everything else. That's why I like Lorde's "Royals" so much.
And then there was Trip Hop, catering fo all yo space gangsta needs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=li-adM-qOwI"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=li-adM-qOwI Skeet skeet. D'Angelo's pretty sick, those guys get some serious grooves that you can just completely dissolve into Edit: I just can't do this bitchez in da club shit, and popping caps in yo nigguhs cos we iz all da sheeeeet, yo!
I really like your art MeatyMushroom, and think you're a talented painter, but I just can't help thinking the girl in your sig pic just looks a little sick.I know you've tried to suggest that the flower is reflecting yellow on her face, but it just doesn't quite work for me. ALSO,SO AS NOT TO APPEAR OFF TOPIC,TRIPPING TO HIP HOP IS NOT MY SCENE.BUT EACH TO THEIR OWN I SUPPOSE.
I can't listen to Hip Hop or Rap myself man, tried quite a few times, just can't groove to it. If that makes your experience better though go for it. I'll stick with my 13th Floor Elevators or my Floyd man.
I enjoy hiphop when i'm sober or on some other substances but never, ever a psychedelic. The values, lyrics and emotions expressed in hiphop are often power-based, conflict-based, and extremely materialistic. Even the most 'enlightened' hiphop i've heard just can't quite deviate away from that recipe for music. It is what it is. I'd much rather listen to the wind on LSD or instrumental music.
Listen to instrumental hip hop, Writer. The values, lyrics and emotions can be whatever you want them to be. I mean if you don't like the sound of hip hop that's one thing, but I think it goes pretty good with some psychedelics. I tend to ignore the lyrics in any music unless it really relates anyways.
Haha yeah I thought that, her liver works better viewed in real life, but her head is a little more stretched than it should be. Mah, took me a while to notice so I'm not too worried
Sometimes if I'm in the mood. I really like the beats od shlohmo, blockhead and xxyyxx when I'm feeling silly. Met these guys a bit ago, while I was tripping actually haha pretty right. Video is awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF06Zk2ZoYs&sns=sms"]Question Everything - Cathedral - YouTube,
Rappers often speak of materialistic things, but rap in itself is immaterial. If you go from the level of the words, you live in one world, but if you go to how the words sound you go up a level higher, and if you go to how the sounds feel you go a level higher. The chains, cars, woman, and drugs are just a bridge, no one wants to here the dynamics of a atom smasher at the club, they just want to get smashed themselves. But if they talk about rims and bitches, then people go buy your cd, then they hear the song about how you conquered your demons and "moved negative to positve, and its all good baby baby". Then people start to see the light at the end of dark tunnel. And I guess for a lot of people the world is confusing, and contradictory, and we got to be able to find ourselves to make it out that confusion. So a lot of the time my raps have come after the peak of the trip. After the triumph of finding oneself, an out pour of wisdom comes out. And it can come in the form of singing, or it can come in the form of rapping! And so there splits apart a good rapper and great rapper. Since rap is in words, its in the head a lot, it doesn't quite hit the heart like the sound of singing voice which is more attuned to the sound rather than the word. But there is rap that can be spit from the heart, and you can feel there meaning, you can feel there emotion, and you can find something immaterial. If you can hear in between the lines, the you start to feel something of the inner quality coming through. Now I don't know if this is real or just illusion, but most the really great rappers, despite when they are in kill mode, seem to be really happy people. I feel as some of them have shown how to live a 200% life. Some rich people seem lifeless, completely rich with money, but inwardly they are poor and lifeless. Rappers seem different for the most part, they are rich, but they can dance and sing like a poor man. They live like they have nothing to lose, but yet they have everything. And being a g, means a centered-ness to your self, that under pressure you won't break. So in some since I feel like rappers create a path, to this sort self actualization. To live rich in both worlds! But you can get mixed up in rap, there a many mixed messages, lots of demons in the paths. If you are in the dirt hip hop can pull you up, but if are already out of the dirt then perhaps it can be hindrance. You gotta find the zen in hiphop, then youll understand its greatness. But I guess I agree on this, there is nothing like the sounds of nature during a trip, or even better, the sound of silence... =)
This is surreal sci-fi hip hop, I've enjoyed some songs from the previous album while tripping. I'd like to explore a couple tracks from this new album... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OsI6vXZAQM"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OsI6vXZAQM
There's also a lot of aggression and ego present . . . that really turns me off in general and during an LSD trip it's unbearable. I can't listen to rap and ignore the lyrics; if I have to ignore half the song why is it playing? I'd rather put on some YES or Rachmaninoff and be lost in every decibel and word.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXkPUUySTx4"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXkPUUySTx4 Give these guys a shot Try doing some searches for "neo soul". It's basically just jazzy hip hop, but the lyrics don't tend be as egocentric.
I can't believe I didn't post on this topic. I am definitely a hip-hop head, not exclusively though, I love everything trippy. I think most people haven't heard good underground stuff, and they assume they don't like hip-hop. Here are some really good hip-hop songs that don't clash with hippy values in any way, and that can really trip you out on psychedelics: I can't recommend more that people explore some Nujabes produced tracks, he had a lot of classical samples and such. I really think as a genre rap/hip hop deserves more respect in the psychedelic community. Most psychedelic festivals now center around beats and rap is getting sampled more and more, soon I think live rap could take its rightful place in hippy minds.
The mental image of a hippie high on lsd trotting down the street with some hip hop in his ears "feeling gangsta as shit" cracks me up lol laughed so hard tea came out of my nose.
