This does not really compute. It sounds like because it wouldn't have fit on Woodstock hippies should or can dismiss this genre of music as a whole.

Then you have a pretty narrow-minded, myopic view of music if you're only open to music that comes from a particular time period, based on whatever reason. I listen to music spanning from the 30s and 40s to today, and from a multitude of genres. I don't limit myself to one or two genres from a 5 or 10 year period. By doing that you miss a lot of the stuff that is out there which you might enjoy but will never hear because of the limitations you set with regard to your biases in music.

Being stuck in the 60s is kind of lame.

I don't really see how it's possible for a subculture of lazy, spoiled white people who are stoned 24/7 and whose daily concerns consist of "I'm bored" and "Should I get one box or two?" can appreciate anything except Phish and Jefferson Airplane.

Can we all just agree that any style of music is acceptable and has merit except for dubstep?

You did ask what types of music we don't like. Just because I don't enjoy two current forms doesn't mean I only listen to music from 1960 to 1970.

I have no problems with some music from the 30's, etc. While I don't care much for Jazz, I do like Cab Calloway. I also enjoy Gene Audrey, Bing Crosby, Woodie Guthrie, etc.
Lots of good music from the 40's. Grew up listening to that stuff as that was my parents' generation.
I can visualize Cab Calloway singing "Minnie the Moocher" or the Andrew Sisters singing "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"at Woodstock, but can't see a rap group there for some reason.

I do freely admit to being biased. I think the problem I have with rap, as I stated before, is that there is no melody. While I can appreciate it as poetry I just don't consider it to be music. I don't like poetry readings, and I don't like rap. Current Country is boring, but I did like Van Morrison's 2006 Pay the Devil which featured his covers of songs by Hank Williams, Merle Haggard and others and a few originals.

I do enjoy some current music such as Loreena McKennitt although I do find it hard to find good current music as the radio plays the same garbage over and over so I don't listen to it any more. The only Pop music I hear is Neo Country, Rap, the same rock songs over and over, or whatever these people like Lady Gaga sing. So when I'm working in the garage I just put on Public Radio and listen to whatever they're talking about.

BTW, have you told us what music you don't like?

I was given a random CD today I thought it was gonna be hip hop and it is bit no lyrics just instruments with some skits/vocal intros.

Somebody needs to drop some lyrics over that shit, if I get fucked up enough I might do so myself LOL
