Bet some of you hippies could dig this. Think most everyone could relate to some degree.

"if you don't like hiphop right now, we don't either." Hahaha

And blackalicious! Very uplifting shit. Gift of gab, the mc, has gone on to do some incredible stuff. Gifted dude for sure.

Prolly one of my top 5 favorite tracks ever.
    and that outro...

Booooo it was a damn remix! Hate that shit. Track was "make you feel that way" from blackalicious.

In its place now is shad. Another talented fellow. A wordsmith fasho.

I feel like all ya peoples that passed off hiphop as violent loud noise have been missing out. Music just like people. Bad apples in every bunch. Leave ya radios off.

I see this thread is long and I only read the first page so people may have (probably) said this.. but usually it's people who have only heard the mainstream, BS hip hop that is played on the radio. It can drive me nuts to stereotype the whole genre based on the mainstream, but eh, what can you do about it?

I don't think I'm biased against any type of music. Well, I hate dub step... I like drum and bass and I guess dub step is supposed to be some (horrible) spin off of that... but I don't really think I'm biased because I dislike dubstep because dubstep is just terrible. Terrible. Terrible.

I used to be biased against country. But I've let go of a lot (most) of that and actually (kinda) like some of it a bit.

I think you are right. The stuff I have heard has probably been more mainstream and it is that for a reason as with other music that is deemed playable by radio etc.

I have never said I dislike it just rather do not probably appreciate it as I do not get it in general. Most of what I have heard has a droning type of beat and feels monotonous sound wise. I really need to listen to more of it and perhaps it will grow on me. :)

Mainstream music is reflective of society's acceptance of a given genra. Promotion and marketing has a lot to do with it of course, but ultimately it's the majority of music consumers that have the final say in the success or failure. For whatever reason, the musical and lyrical values of mainstream Hip hop/ rap are what sells.
It's what the majority perceives as defining the genra.

Art always reflects back at society and I'm not particularly liking the reflections I'm seeing from any mainstream music these days.

At least it is slightly better than the mainstream music of the frickin' 80's

But before we get into a discussion about pop music, no: I never was a fan so I'm not going to defend it more than with above statement :D

Ha ha! It always sounds to me like someone down the street is building a house.

So true about what is played in mainstream. I used to listen to a lot of radio and rarely do now. But if you delve deeper you'll find a lot of good tunes. Even from the 80's! ( @ Asmo)

    Haha...

When I first heard dub step I thought something was wrong w the stereo system. I kept messing with-trying to adjust the bass and the volume, etc... then I realized it was supposed to be like that. Eck. :)

I wholeheartly agree. Some of my favourite reggae and dub is from the early 80's and also in the heavy metal scene there were great developments (although definitely not in the mainstream :p)! Compared to the 80's the 90's were musicwise the real treat to grow up in as a teen IMHO (and no, not only because I grew up in them :D)

No 90's Industrial people in here?
That used to get the same reaction that dupstep gets now.

I only like Ministry and then I'm still mainly talking about Psalm 69. Industrial stuff (metal or otherwise) is generally just really not for me.

lol It irks me when good singers use so much electronica. We were discussing Beyoncé in another thread. Good example… you would never know some of them have good vocals if you hadn't heard them without it. Of course, there are the ones who desperately need it. When they sing live they can’t carry a tune (waves at Katy).

If you'd grown up in the 70's, you'd know what real music is. ;)

Ha ha! I love Bill. I think he's busier now than when he was younger. Do you have any of his "albums"? ;) He's even doing commercials.
