and where do you think that those subjective perceptions come from? in order for you to perceive, there must be an object for you to percieve, no? so regardless of how you subjectively percieve the object, there is still an object nonetheless.

You are forever removed from that object however. By your perception your transform it.

I think we operate on a different set of definitions here.

    Define 'magic'

    and define 'mystic'

    in your words

At one level I think you are this person, in this world of objects.

At another level I think you are this world of objects with a person there.

At another level your just a bunch of energy not formed into objects or persons.

So in some ways yes, in other ways no.

but how much of is it that the perception of object that can be transformed, as it is that the object is our perception itself? i think that if there is any kind of verifiable truth it would be that we are conscious, and alive. but to what ends?

to the op: i think morphogenetic fields are more like containers storing an overall impression man has carved in through experiences on whatever hallucinogen. leary was a powerful man but there's no way he could have shaped the experiences of enough people on lsd to a degree where a concept as broad as hinduism could in anyway be extrapolated from the lsd morpogenetic field.

I think they need to add a sound feature to the forums, like when someone enters this thread the theme from the Twilight Zone would play.:p

    Anyway.....
Couple of BIG flaws with that line of thinking.
first, you are moving forward on the assumption that this Akashic record does indeed exist, a point that can neither be proven or disproven. Yet you proceed as if it were verifiable FACT, which it is not.

Second, why do people always want to make the leap that some phenomena of psychedelic experiences originate from outside the individual. Your mind, memories, emotional state, expectations, are where the "content" of a psychedelic experience originates from.
The reason why people get certain motifs from certain drugs, IE; south American motif patterns from mushrooms, is because that is the association that exists within YOUR MIND, not out there somewhere.

Psychedelics can give access to many astounding and powerful experiences, the majority of which originate from within, not without.

Again, this whole idea cannot be shown to be true and conversely cannot be shown to be false.

On a whole, I would say I tend to agree with Neodudes position about all this. If I read him right, he is saying why go so far out of yourself to explain/understand some of this shit when you really need not go any further than your own mind.

I personally believe that there is a "record" of sorts that we can all access, and I feel that it can be accessed under the right circumstances, sometimes with the aid of psychedelics, sometimes without. I feel it is a record of human progress, thought, instinct, and it is constantly being added to and evolving.

    It's called DNA.

We actually know very little about the whole purpose and function of DNA, except that the encoding is capable of containing much, much more information than is needed to build a new physical creature.

So, yes in a way I believe that there is a repository of information that at times we can have access to at some deeper level. But it doesn't exist "out there" somewhere, it exists in every one of your cells.

I can't provide hard objective proofs, but the nature of DNA and the passing on of certain behavioral traits, or instincts does allude to DNA containing more than just blueprints for the physiology, but also seems to pass along memories that we call instinct.
Why do ducklings or chickens that are but hours old, yet if the shadow silhouette of a hawk passing by, they all scurry for cover and protection.
Some call it instinct, I call it inherited memories. To what extent and detail do these inherited memories go in the human creature? At this point we simply don't know.
Before you go looking "out there", remember there still exists a vast, mostly undiscovered universe within.

The akashic records (akasha is a Sanskrit word meaning "sky", "space" or "aether") is a term used in theosophy (and Anthroposophy) to describe a compendium of mystical knowledge encoded in a non-physical plane of existence. These records are described as containing all knowledge of human experience and the history of the cosmos. They are metaphorically described as a library; other analogues commonly found in discourse on the subject include a "universal computer" and the "Mind of God". People who describe the records assert that they are constantly updated and that they can be accessed through astral projection. The concept originated in the theosophical movements of the 19th century. It is frequently used in New Age discourse.

So far, the only presented evidence of akashic records has been the claims of those who purport to gather information from them. These claims cannot be empirically tested, and thus is not deemed a serious matter of scientific inquiry. Neither the Christian nor Vedic/Hindu traditions generally recognize their scriptures and beliefs as being rooted in the akashic record, though specific groups or individuals may subscribe to such a belief. However in Islamic belief, under the concept of Qadar, there is a notation of so called "the Book of Decree", or "Al-Lawh Al-Mahfud" which is also defined as a preserved tablet that holds the records of all the events that ever happened and also that are going to happen.

I think the marriage of akashic record to psychedelics is most reliably accounted for in the term new age discourse.

The New Age (also referred to as the New Age movement, New Age spirituality, and Cosmic Humanism) is a decentralized Western social and spiritual movement that seeks "Universal Truth" and the attainment of the highest individual human potential. It includes aspects of Occultism, astrology, esotericism, metaphysics, alternative medicine, music, collectivism, sustainability, and nature. New Age spirituality is characterized by an individual approach to spiritual practices and philosophies, and the rejection of religious doctrine and dogma.

The New Age movement includes elements of older spiritual and religious traditions ranging from atheism and monotheism through classical pantheism, naturalistic pantheism, and panentheism to polytheism combined with science and Gaia philosophy: particularly archaeoastronomy, astronomy, ecology, environmentalism, the Gaia hypothesis, psychology, and physics. New Age practices and philosophies sometimes draw inspiration from major world religions: Buddhism, Chinese folk religion, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism; with particularly strong influences from East Asian religions, Gnosticism, Neopaganism, New Thought, Spiritualism, Theosophy, Universalism, and Western esotericism. Additional terms for the movement include All is One and Mind-Body-Spirit.

More importantly "new age" implies collective awakening and in real terms that implies the "consumerist collective." LSD is a commonly consumable conceptual equivalent to consciousness expansion. A marriage presumably made in heaven is little more than popular shorthand for imagination.

I would consider DNA almost as adequate a metaphor as akashic record.

It's not everyones style to make things sound as sciencey as possible. I don't see the point really personally, it's not like anyone who is highly subscribed to typical scientific conceptions surrounding DNA would let into their mind a notion of DNA as a sort of archive of information directly accessible. So why not use a word that holds a more independent space in order to refer to such a concept?

You know it was Leary that first metaphorized DNA itself to being essentially a kind of akashic record. Maybe, atleast I didn't see any other authors refer to DNA in such a way before him.
